Tibs great bendy bus squeeze: Guinness world record

Description: On 6 July 1998, a Guinness world record was set when 438 Temasek Polytechnic students squeezed into a Trans-Island (Tibs) bendy bus. The record-breaking event was a grand finale to a week-long orientation programme. Tibs bought a bandanna at $5 for every student that squeezed into the bus. Proceeds from the Bandanna sale went to four Singapore welfare organisations - Singapore Association for the Deaf, the Handicap Welfare Association, the Singapore Association for the Visually Handicapped and the Spastic Children's Association of Singapore.

Tourism Innovation Competition 2012

Description: Tourism Innovation Competition (TIC) is an annual competition that started in 2010. Organised by Temasek Polytechnic's School of Business and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board, the competition aims to arm student participants with opportunities to learn more about the tourism industry as well as career opportunities available. Now in its third year, TIC 2012 was held from 15 June to 22 June. The theme for 2012 was "Sentosa visitor experience: a destination that is accessible to visitors with special needs". Participants had to come up with innovative solutions to provide better accessibility for special needs visitors in Sentosa. Mr Daniel Yeow, Director, TP School of Business gave the welcome address, while guest speakers included Ms Lilian Kuan, Asst Director, Sector Capability Development, Singapore Tourism Board and Ms Lim Suu Kuan, Divisional Director, Guest Experience Division, Sentosa Development Coroporation. Lecturers from the Hospitality & Tourism Management (HTM)/Leisure & Resort Management (LRM) diploma courses gave detailed briefing of the theme & competition to participants. More than 201 students from 23 secondary schools and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) attended 2 workshops 'Special needs and creativity' and 'Walkabouts in Sentosa' to deepen their understanding of tourism and special needs problems. The 47 competing teams had to go through a series of consultations with industry experts to fine-tune their proposals before making their presentation to the judges. The champion of TIC 2012 was the Zest team from Zhonghua Secondary School.

Description: Tourism Innovation Competition (TIC) is an annual competition that started in 2010. Organised by Temasek Polytechnic's School of Business and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board, the competition aims to arm student participants with opportunities to learn more about the tourism industry as well as career opportunities available. The theme for 2013 looked at the youth tourism market, and how Singapore could be made into a major youth tourism destination. Some 49 teams of students from 26 secondary schools and ITE participated in TIC 2013, and the teams were given one month to work on their proposals and were mentored by industry experts. The grand finale for the competition was held on 16 July, and students had to present their creative strategies which would produce innovative experiences for younger tourists aged 18 to 35 years old, while the Auditorium foyer was turned into an exciting exhibition of novel tourism ideas. Four students from Zhonghua Secondary School won the competition with their Cosplay theme where guests could try their hands at bringing characters they were playing to life. Mr Daniel Yeow, Director, TP's School of Business gave the welcome address, while Ms Chiew Chien Way, Asst Director, Capability and Innovation, Singapore Tourism Board presented the awards to winners of TIC 2013.

Description: Tourism Innovation Competition (TIC) was held from 10 June to 17 June 2014. It was organised by Temasek Polytechnic School of Business and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board. The aim of the competition was to arm student participants with opportunities to learn more about the tourism industry as well as career opportunities available in this field. This year's theme was "Sustainability and the hotel sector". There were close to 150 student participants from various Secondary Schools and the ITE who presented creative proposals reinforcing and reinventing sustainable approaches to hospitality operations, specifically in the hotel sector. The winner was Team Captivators from Zhonghua Secondary School.

Description: Drivers and their passengers are required to check in using Safe Entry, show their staff identification and temperature badge to the security guard before entry. If they do not have the temperature badge then they will have to park their car and proceed to the sheltered canopy to have their temperature taken. Only the WEST Gate is accessible to all vehicles entering TP campus.

Visit by students of Yishun Town Secondary School

Description: On 3 July 2013, students from Yishun Town Secondary School visited the Temasek Polytechnic. Staff from the Centre for Foundation Studies shared on the different admission routes to polytechnic studies including the one-year Polytechnic Foundation Programme (PFP) at TP. The foundation programmme's practice-oriented curriculum will prepare Normal (Academic) students for entry into relevant polytechnic diploma courses. The 1st batch of student intake for the PFP @ TP commenced in April 2013 for students who performed very well in the Singapore-Cambridge GCE N-level Examinations.

WOW shopping experience : inaugural National Retailing Competition 2013

Description: The inaugural National Retailing Competition 2013 which served as both a competition and exhibition, was organised by the Temasek Polytechnic School of Business Diploma in Retail Management. Having started in June 2013 and culminating with an exhibition in September, the competition saw individuals from secondary schools and ITEs pit their retail ideas against each other. Finalists were eventually shortlisted and invited to put up exhibits at the WOW shopping experience. The competition had a two fold objective, which was aimed at raising awareness about the retail industry whilst tapping into and attracting bright young minds to the retail industry. The competition also aimed to be enriching for its participants. Participants were required to attend an informative mini workshop which had industry professionals giving various talks. Through these workshops, students learnt the other facets of the retail industry such as branding and the importance of local and overseas fashion trends. Participants also toured 1st Avenue, TP's on-campus retail training store run by Year 2 students from the Diploma in Retail Management.

Week Zero Orientation Camp

Description: TP's Week Zero Orientation Camp was the biggest of all the orientations -- the time when freshies from all six schools come together. Each school held many activities, from stay-in camps to campus tours, large-scale games, and even a tug-of-war between students and staff. The Camp orientates students within their school, providing an in-depth insight into their school and bonding the freshmen at the School level. The Week-Zero Camp is organized by the respective Studies Club of each School. The various school orientation programmes took place from 15-19 April 2013, ending with the annual Regatta on the last day. Freshmen from the School of Design had a wonderful time participating in the numerous activities organised by their Studies Club.

Week Zero Orientation: The Final Clash 2001

Description: On 29 June 2001, Week Zero Orientation for Freshmen ended with a big bang at the Final Clash 2001. First year students from the five Schools get acquainted with each other while having fun in games such as Save the Bomb, Hey My Balloon, Dress Me Up, Final Battle and Let Me Cross. All five Schools also pitted against each other in the telematch and cheerleading competitions. Temasek Engineering School emerged as the Games Champion.

Besides students learning about building self-confidence, the series of indoor and outdoor programmes enabled the students not only to focus on achieving strong leadership and teamwork skills, but also looked to the needs of the team members and developed their potential. The theme for this Young leaders series was "Discover the person you want to be".

Organised by the Corporate Communications Department, this series of events invited outstanding students with good academic and CCA records to come to TP for a day and get a taste of some of the opportunities they would be able to enjoy as TP Scholars and student leaders. This outreach programme, which imparted essential life skills while showcasing the benefits of a TP education was conducted by the Centre for Character & Leadership Education and the Entrepreneurship Centre. Besides students learning about building self-confidence, they were assigned an entrepreneurship project entitled "KoolWerkz challenge" to sell KoolWerkz frozen desserts. These enterprising students were able to pick up key entrepreneurial and marketing skills to successfully persuade staff and students to buy the frozen desserts and raised $555 for TP's Campus Care Network funds.

iCafe @ Library exhibition 2000

Description: The iCafe @ Library Exhibition was held in conjunction with TP Orientation for Freshmen in 2000. The iCafe, an interactive virtual library guide was designed to introduce, in a fun and relaxing way, the services and facilities that the Library had to offer to new patrons and visitors. Based on the popularity of the coffee culture here, the cafe concept as a virtual library guide was designed by 2 Student Internship Programme (SIP) students from the Temasek Information Technology School. Inside the cafe, users could visit the Cyber Club, Edutainment Hall, view Highlights and browse the different "Coffee powders" (library collections) offered and be acquainted with "Student specials" such as past exam papers and information on recommended book collection. To publicise the exhibition, a banner was hung outside the Library and a model dressed prettily as a wait staff graced the entrance to the special display on Info cafe at the Library Exhibition Hall, level 2. The iCafe @ Library Exhibition ran from 26 June to 14 July 2000.
