Description: Temasek Polytechnic's School of Informatics and IT organised the 1st Cyber Warriors and Investigators Competition on Wednesday, 24 Oct. 2012. Sixty secondary 3 students from Bedok Green, Bedok View, Junyuan, Ngee Ann, Ping Yi and Springfield Secondary Schools took part in a 3-hour long competition and learned how to use digital forensics to solve cyber crimes. The aim of the competition was to give secondary school students an idea of what they would learn in courses such as the Diploma in Cyber & Digital Security and Diploma in Digital Forensics offered in TP.

Description: The Senior Minister of State, Mr Lawrence Wong, Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts and Ministry of Education was the guest-of-honour at the closing ceremony of Polytechnic Forum 2012 which was held on Friday, 21 September 2012 at the Temasek Convention Centre, Temasek Polytechnic. Some 300 student representatives from the five polytechnics who spent the last four days in intensive discussions at a residential programme in Desaru, Malaysia, put forward their recommendations to the Senior Minister in an open dialogue session. Since its launch in 1996, the Polytechnic Forum serves as a platform for polytechnic students to discuss and exchange their views on key national and global issues. The forum also advocates active youth citizenry and nurtures inspired and committed youth with strong convictions about their roles in the community.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic's's Engineering Project Show was held on 26 July 2012 at Temasek Convention Centre. Among the 25 projects on display were "Self-inflating tyre", "Gen-Y power socket" & "Gen-Y" power plug, "Car seat aid" and "EZ paraplegic walker". The two mechatronic students behind the Self-inflating tyre which used a system that pumped up the tyres as one rode the bicycle received a Merit award at the Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors' Award.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 24 July 2012 with the Institute of Public Relations Singapore (IPRS) to launch the 1st PR student chapter at TP's School of Business. The chapter was the first of its kind in Singapore between a Polytechnic and the PR industry to foster greater awareness of public relations. With this initiative, TP students in the Diploma in Communications and Media Management (CMM), Diploma in Business (BUS) and Diploma in Marketing (MKG) could leverage on the many networking and mentorship programmes offered by IPRS. Description: Temasek Polytechnic organised the Tourism Innovation Competition 2012 for 205 students from 23 Secondary Schools and ITE Colleges. It was held from 15 to 22 June 2012. A total of 47 teams attempted to provide innovative solutions to accessibility problems for the special needs visitor in Sentosa. The special needs visitor profile included the disabled, elderly, families with young children, nursing mothers, and pregnant women. Consultation was held with TP's Hospitality & Tourism Management (HTM) / Leisure Resort Management (LRM) lecturers as well as staff from Singapore Tourism Board and Sentosa Development Corporation to fine-tune proposals on their assigned areas. The participants set up 47 on-site displays for the judges to view. The top 3 teams presented their proposals to the judges and their peers on 22 June 2012. Teo Wei Xuan, Cedar Girls Secondary School and Florentino Gem Paula Villar, from Yishun Town Secondary School gave comments on their proposals.

Description: The Centre for Applied Nutrition Services (CANS) was launched at Temasek Polytechnic's Nutrition Symposium on 19 June 2012. The Centre provided holistic support service in areas of applied nutrition to the various food and health-related industries as well as the nutrition, health and wellness sectors. According to Dr Lee Chee Wee, Director, School of Applied Science, TP had received close to half a million dollars from industry collaborations and consultancy services related to food & nutrition projects as well as healthy product development. Completed projects included healthier cheesecakes from AllanBakes, glycemic index (GI) testing of products from local and multinational companies, HACCP/food safety and nutritional analysis.

Description: In a press release dated 4 June, 2012, Temasek Polytechnic (TP) announced that it was the first institution of higher learning to be certified by Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) as a SAR-147 Approved Maintenance Training Organisation (MTO). TP's School of Engineering was audited and certified by CAAS as a MTO in offering training for its students from the Diploma in Aerospace Engineering and Diploma in Aerospace Electronics. Description: Under the Spring Singapore's Innovation Voucher Scheme (IVS), Temasek Polytechnic's School of Applied Science helped small and medium enterprises (SMES) developed innovative ideas to stay ahead of competition. Temasek Polytechnic (TP) had developed 31 projects which were showcased at TP's School of Applied Science Project Show held on 28 March 2012. Tongkat Ali and Diabetic-friendly cheesecakes were among the projects showcased. Mr Allan Albert Teoh, founder, AllanBakes and Dr Lau Peck Ting, Managing Director, Quintech life Sciences Pte Ltd shared on the benefits of IVS. The IVS had also benefitted the local traditional medicine industry such as H.W. Traditional Medicine, Wen Ken Marketing and Tai Tong Ah Co. During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was inked between Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (NJUCM) and TP. Under the terms of agreement, NJUCM would provide expertise over three years to further strengthen ASc's capability in high performance liquid chromatography (HPLCP) fingerprinting. The event also saw the launch of a book titled "High performance liquid chromatography fingerprinting technology of the commonly-used traditional Chinese medicine herbs".

Description: Aerospace students from Temasek Polytechnic (TP), led by Aerospace lecturer Mr Matthias Christian, won top prizes in the recent Singapore Amazing Flying Machine Competitions 2012 which was organised by DSO National Laboratories and the Singapore Science Centre, and held from 15-17 March 2012. TP took home 5 Gold, 2 Silver, and 2 Bronze medals, as well as the "Best Team Spirit" award at the competition. Team HawxVision won the Best Performance Award (Gold) and the Champions Award (Gold) in the Semi-autonomous category. Team Red Lunar won the Most Creative Award (Gold) and also Best Video Award (Gold) in the Semi-autonomous category. Team Prime won the Best Performance Award (Silver), Best Video Award (Bronze) and Champions Award (Bronze) in the Unconventional (Open) category. Team Spirit won the Most Creative Award (Silver) and Best Presentation Award (Gold) in the same category.

Description: The 15th Polytechnic Student Research Programme (PSRP) award presentation ceremony was held on Thursday, 8 March 2012 at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. A total of 80 final-year PSRP projects were undertaken by the five polytechnics and the team with the best PSRP project from each polytechnic received a cash award at the ceremony. Prof Jackie Y. Ying, the Executive Director at A*STAR Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology was the guest-of-honour. The winning projects from Temasek Polytechic were "Isolation of circulating tumour cells using a novel microsieve cartridge" and "Realising Internet of things (IoT) through service oriented dynamic sensor network". Description: With the telecom boom and healthy growth in the smartphone market in 2011, many graduating students from Temasek Polytechnic's Diploma of Business IT chose to design and develop applications for the mobile platform. Highlights of the show were "MP14: Pinyin Island iPhone Game" targeted at audience of kids aged 5-12 to make learning Mandarin fun, "MP15: My Heartland Singapore Web Portal" developed for Crystal Horizon Pte Ltd. and aimed to promote awareness of events in heartland malls, "MP17: World Gourmet Summit iPhone App" an iPhone app for Peter Knipp Holding's World Gourmet Summit and "MP19: LifeAtEvent Android App" a mobile app that allowed users to share attractions through photos, and which was one of the recipients of the prestigious 2011 Explorer Grant award. The Course Manager, Benedict Fernandez shared that students were free to choose what they want to work on and who they work with. Among the graduating students who participated in the projects were Darren Teo Wei Jie and Alvin Hoe. MeetingYoungMinds@BIT 2012 was held on 23 February 2012.

Press release. 15 Feb. 2012. Temasek Polytechnic and ST Kinetics develop state-of-the-art "Last-mile enabler" for the modern warfighter

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and ST Kinetics collaborated to develop a Robotic Articulated Wheel Vehicle (RawV), an unmanned combat vehicle. It was developed by three students from the Diploma of Mechatronics as part of their final year major project cum student internship programme when they were attached to ST Kinetics. This unmanned vehicle is scalable and could be used for dangerous search and rescue operations, bomb disposal, mine detection, military surveillance behind enemy lines, and also function as a logistics transporter into enemy territory to help lighten the payload carried by troops. Description: The joint polytechnic press release on higher pay for poly grads in 2011 was released on 6 February 2012. It revealed the findings of the Graduate employment survey conducted between October and November 2011 by the five polytechnics. This annual Graduate employment survey was jointly conducted by Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic to ascertain the employment status of polytechnic graduates. The results of the survey showed that polytechnic graduates were in great demand by employers and earned more with higher remuneration, compared to the previous year.
