Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) through the Centre for Ageing Studies and School for Humanities & Social Sciences held its inaugural Seniors' Week on 19 & 20 October 2016 and the inaugural EngAGE Symposium 2016 on 21 October 2016. Under the theme, "Transforming ageing: enrich, engage, empower", the different schools and departments in TP collaborated and organised 19 activities and workshops. Some interesting highlights were Mindfulness practices for a better you and Fitness & exercise for older adults. The launch of TP's Seniors' Week 2016 was marked by Conductorcise, an exhilarating new "fitness fusion" sound workout for mind, body and soul. Prof Alfred Chan, Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission Hong Kong, was the keynote speaker at the inaugural symposium.

Description: With the telecom boom and healthy growth in the smartphone market in 2011, many graduating students from Temasek Polytechnic's Diploma of Business IT chose to design and develop applications for the mobile platform. Highlights of the show were "MP14: Pinyin Island iPhone Game" targeted at audience of kids aged 5-12 to make learning Mandarin fun, "MP15: My Heartland Singapore Web Portal" developed for Crystal Horizon Pte Ltd. and aimed to promote awareness of events in heartland malls, "MP17: World Gourmet Summit iPhone App" an iPhone app for Peter Knipp Holding's World Gourmet Summit and "MP19: LifeAtEvent Android App" a mobile app that allowed users to share attractions through photos, and which was one of the recipients of the prestigious 2011 Explorer Grant award. The Course Manager, Benedict Fernandez shared that students were free to choose what they want to work on and who they work with. Among the graduating students who participated in the projects were Darren Teo Wei Jie and Alvin Hoe. MeetingYoungMinds@BIT 2012 was held on 23 February 2012.

Description: TP students created a Virtual Classroom App for Preschoolers which provided a full curriculum of services such as interactive lessons through games where children can see 3D objects in front of them. Real-time multiplayer games encourage teamwork and promote social skill development, and a point reward system can be exchanged for pets for a quicker assimilation of the subject being taught. The app was one of the 25 final-year projects developed by the graduating students of TP's Business Information Technology (BIT) course. The public can viewed these projects on 21 February 2018 at Meeting Young Minds @ BIT Project Show held at Temasek Polytechnic Main Foyer and Auditorium.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and Lufthansa Technical Training GmbH (LTT) signed an agreement on Tuesday, 19 February 2013 to extend their partnership for another 5 years. With this partnership both parties continued to make improvements to the training programmes for professionals in the growing aviation industry in Singapore and the region. Mr Ong Yong Ming, winner of the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew Award 2010, credited his training at the TP-LTT Centre for his achievements. Description: Temasek Polytechnic's Meeting Young Minds @ BIT Project Show was held on Wednesday, 22 February 2017. Some 30 final-year projects developed by the graduating students of TP's Business Information Technology (BIT) course were on show to the public. One of the projects showcased was FALL-D -- a fall-detecting monitoring system that used a combination of motion detection, motion acceleration and voice recognition devices to trigger alerts to the caregiver via mobile application, if an emergency was suspected. Other student projects included the following: Enabling healthier meal choices from food photos and Facilities incident report system (FIRS) -- discussions were initiated with TP's Estates and Facilities Management Department to test-bed the system within campus. Also present were representatives from industry partners like FOMO Pay Private Ltd and Onelyst. Co-founder and CEO of Onelyst, Hizam Ismail, is a BIT alumnus and a graduate from TP in 2010.

Description: The Graduate Employment Survey (GES), jointly conducted by the five polytechnics in 2017, showed that polytechnic graduates continue to be in demand in the job market. The overall employment rate six months after graduation was at 87.3% (86.4% for fresh graduates, and 89.8% for post-NS graduates). Although there was a decline from 2016, employment rate remains healthy. The decline is partly due to year-on-year changes in labour market and economic conditions, and preferences of students upon graduation.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic and Ngee Ann Polytechnic would be offering over 300 places in early childhood courses at the inaugural Early Admissions Exercise (EAE) commencing 22 June 2016. Instead of the usual one-to-one interviews with a panel of lecturers, students invited to interviews at the polytechnics would be assessed through their participation in group interviews as well as interesting activities, to gauge their aptitude and passion for working with children.The three full-time early childhood education diploma courses offered by the two polytechnics were the Diploma in Early Childhood Education (NP), Diploma in Child Psychology & Early Education (NP) and Diploma in Early Childhood Studies (TP). Description: TP InfoTech Day 2018 is an annual showcase of innovative projects by the final year students of the Temasek Polytechnic School of Informatics & IT. This year’s theme was “Digital Innovation and Transformation – Start Small, Think Big” and the projects were divided into three sub-themes: Future of Tech & FinTech, Growth & Opportunities in AI and Analytics and Next-Gen Security Evolution. The event showcased 30 projects developed by graduating students, some of which were done in collaboration with industry partners and various government agencies. The project show took place on Tuesday, 20 March 2018 at the Polytechnic Foyer, and was opened to the public. A seminar with talks by IT professionals took place concurrently at Auditorium 2 of the polytechnic.

Description: Aerospace students from Temasek Polytechnic (TP), led by Aerospace lecturer Mr Matthias Christian, won top prizes in the recent Singapore Amazing Flying Machine Competitions 2012 which was organised by DSO National Laboratories and the Singapore Science Centre, and held from 15-17 March 2012. TP took home 5 Gold, 2 Silver, and 2 Bronze medals, as well as the "Best Team Spirit" award at the competition. Team HawxVision won the Best Performance Award (Gold) and the Champions Award (Gold) in the Semi-autonomous category. Team Red Lunar won the Most Creative Award (Gold) and also Best Video Award (Gold) in the Semi-autonomous category. Team Prime won the Best Performance Award (Silver), Best Video Award (Bronze) and Champions Award (Bronze) in the Unconventional (Open) category. Team Spirit won the Most Creative Award (Silver) and Best Presentation Award (Gold) in the same category.

Description: The Senior Minister of State, Mr Lawrence Wong, Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts and Ministry of Education was the guest-of-honour at the closing ceremony of Polytechnic Forum 2012 which was held on Friday, 21 September 2012 at the Temasek Convention Centre, Temasek Polytechnic. Some 300 student representatives from the five polytechnics who spent the last four days in intensive discussions at a residential programme in Desaru, Malaysia, put forward their recommendations to the Senior Minister in an open dialogue session. Since its launch in 1996, the Polytechnic Forum serves as a platform for polytechnic students to discuss and exchange their views on key national and global issues. The forum also advocates active youth citizenry and nurtures inspired and committed youth with strong convictions about their roles in the community.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP), which housed the only accredited Glycemic Index (GI) Research Unit in the region, has launched two new part-time courses on nutrition targeted at individuals who are keen to equip themselves with knowledge of basic nutrition and diabetes. Both courses are supported and subsidised by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG). The two new courses on nutrition are "The nutrition therapy for the prevention and management of diabetes" and "The nutrition for optimum health". Both courses, run quarterly, are conducted by a team of experts from TP, led by Dr Kalpana Bhaskaran, who is Domain Lead of Applied Nutrition & Glycemic Index Research at TP's School of Applied Science. TP also collaborated with food manufacturing company, Faesol Pte. Ltd. to create a low GI multigrain drink - iLite GrainsPlus which is available in all NTUC FairPrice outlets.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic's Centre for Applied Gerontology, the Diploma in Gerontological Management Studies and the School of Humanities & Social Sciences organised an ageing symposium themed, "Towards successful ageing" on 22 August 2017. The symposium took a holistic approach covering the physical (exercise), cognitive (brain training), and socio-emotional (mindfulness) dimensions, through having a select panel of distinguished experts in their respective fields. The aim was to stimulate dialogue on the pressing concern for the likely increase in cognitive problems faced by our rapidly ageing population. The symposium also saw the launch of MindWorks, a brain training app that contained a set of six games designed for older adults that target memory, attention, logic, and arithmetic calculation, by TP's Principal & CEO, Mr Peter Lam and Prof. Ryuta Kawashima, Director of the Institute of Development, Aging and Cancer (IDAC), Tohoku University. Keynote speakers included Prof. Ryuta Kawashima and Prof. Linda Lam. Other presenters at the Ageing Symposium 2017 were Prof. Kua Ee Heok, Dr. Grace Lee, Asst Prof. Julian Lim, Mr Sam Sim Kim Yang, Ms. Ee Sharifah Rose and Dr. Philip Yap Lin Kiat.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic's "Meeting Young Minds @ BIT Project Show" was held on Wednesday, 24 February 2016 at Temasek Polytechnic Main Foyer and Auditorium 2. One of the 30 final year projects showcased was the creation of an eParking mobile application and other innovative technical solutions to boost productivity and ease the workload of parking enforcement officers with the use of QR-code scanning. The simple-to-use Android application allowed drivers and motorists to select the location, period of time and load funds to fulfill a parking session. Some of the other final year projects showcased included "Tri-factor authentication mechanism to track event attendance" and "On-the-go volunteering". Industry partners like honestbee.com and SAFESURE Engineering also took part in the discussion on driving innovations with technology. Mr Aloysius Lau, panelist and MD of SAFESURE was a BIT alumnus.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic's School of Informatics and IT organised the 1st Cyber Warriors and Investigators Competition on Wednesday, 24 Oct. 2012. Sixty secondary 3 students from Bedok Green, Bedok View, Junyuan, Ngee Ann, Ping Yi and Springfield Secondary Schools took part in a 3-hour long competition and learned how to use digital forensics to solve cyber crimes. The aim of the competition was to give secondary school students an idea of what they would learn in courses such as the Diploma in Cyber & Digital Security and Diploma in Digital Forensics offered in TP.

The programme is funded by TF with a grant of about S$223,000 and involved the staff and students of TP's School of Applied Science in imparting knowledge in the areas of nutrition, food hygiene and safety practices to 150 programme participants. Description: The October intake of Temasek Polytechnic's School of Engineering showcased 30 final-year projects at the Engineering Project Show on 25 July 2013. Among the projects showcased were Aqua saver shower system -- a finalist in the Cool Ideas for Better HDB Living competition, this shower system automatically diverted water to a holding tank if its temperature was outside a pre-specified range, thereby saving water; Contactless charger -- a prototype of a contactless charger for mobile phones, laptops and other mobile devices; and Easy gripper -- this Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors' Award nominee for 2014 was a device which helped the elderly or those with weak fingers or sweaty palms to pull out an AC plug from its socket effortlessly and safely.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic, in collaboration with A*STAR's Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), Microsoft and MediaTek, organised an "Internet of Things (IoT) Hackathon" to focus on preparing future working adults in the growth area of IoT. The Hackathon took place at Temasek Polytechnic's School of Informatics & IT on 26 & 27 November 2015. Approximately 50 TP students participated in this event to develop prototype IoT solutions within two days, using the Microsoft Azure IoT Open Source Platform, MediaTek LinkIt One platform, together with Engineering System expertise provided by I2R. This partnership facilitated the sharing of knowledge and skills in digital forensics and investigations between the CID and TP, enabling them to build a better understanding and an appreciation of the operational requirements, encountered in actual crime investigations. Description: Under the Spring Singapore's Innovation Voucher Scheme (IVS), Temasek Polytechnic's School of Applied Science helped small and medium enterprises (SMES) developed innovative ideas to stay ahead of competition. Temasek Polytechnic (TP) had developed 31 projects which were showcased at TP's School of Applied Science Project Show held on 28 March 2012. Tongkat Ali and Diabetic-friendly cheesecakes were among the projects showcased. Mr Allan Albert Teoh, founder, AllanBakes and Dr Lau Peck Ting, Managing Director, Quintech life Sciences Pte Ltd shared on the benefits of IVS. The IVS had also benefitted the local traditional medicine industry such as H.W. Traditional Medicine, Wen Ken Marketing and Tai Tong Ah Co. During the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was inked between Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (NJUCM) and TP. Under the terms of agreement, NJUCM would provide expertise over three years to further strengthen ASc's capability in high performance liquid chromatography (HPLCP) fingerprinting. The event also saw the launch of a book titled "High performance liquid chromatography fingerprinting technology of the commonly-used traditional Chinese medicine herbs".

Description: The official launch of Temasek Polytechnic's 25th anniversary celebrations by Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM) Mr Goh Chok Tong was held on Wednesday, 29 April 2015 at 10am at Auditorium 1. TP was established in 1990 with five satellite campuses, and became a beautiful 30-hectare campus by the scenic Bedok Reservoir in 1995. The year long celebrations included events like the TP 25 hour challenge in May, an International Conference on Learning & Teaching in October and a home-grown musical "Crunch time" in November. Apart from launching TP's 25th anniversary microsite, ESM Mr Goh was presented with a copy of TP's 25th anniversary commemorative book, "From silver to gold".

The exchange programme provided almost 400 students (170 students from TP's Diploma in Communications and Media Management (CMM) and about 200 from UWA students) an opportunity to learn more about Australian education and culture for TP students and for Australian students to understand TP life and Singapore culture. His Excellency, the Australian High Commissioner to Singapore, Mr Philip Green, Professor Krishna Sen, Dean of the Faculty of Arts at UWA, Mr Daniel Yeow, Director, TP's School of Business as well as senior staff and students from both institutions attended the celebration held at Temasek Polytechnic. Description: Menlo Worldwide Logistics (Menlo) and Temasek Polytechnic signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 27 June 2013 to establish a new scholarship programme for students pursuing careers in logistics and supply chain management. Under the programme, Menlo established four annual scholarships of S$2,500 each. These scholarships were awarded to selected students in their third and final year of study pursuing the Diploma in Operations and Logistics Managementat at TP's School of Business.
