The collaboration combined Agilent's cutting-edge bio-analytical technologies with TP's resources to help small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are engaged in traditional Chinese medicine and food products maintain strict safety and quality standards. Description: The Design Show 2013 was held on 1 April 2013. The emphasis for the design show was on social and community design resulting in a showcase of fresh and innovative design solutions to pressing contemporary social issues today. Four hundred projects from the graduating class of Temasek Polytechnic's School of Design were showcased including the humanitarian support backpacks, prosthetic arms for children, eldercare spaces, rejuvenating Pulau Ubin and designing orphanages in Cambodia. Seven groups of students from the Diploma in Moving Images were awarded the Development Assistance Grant by the Media Development Authority (MDA). One of the funded films was "Make me laugh" produced by Aloysius Lim.

Press release. 01 Feb. 2017. Local polytechnics and Singapore Fintech Association sign MOU to intensify industry collaboration

Description: The five local polytechnics, namely Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Nanyang Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic, and Singapore FinTech Association (SFA) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to deepen collaboration between educators and the FinTech industry. This MOU supported the PolyFinTech 100 initiative, launched in October 2016 to develop a strong talent pool trained in financial technology to aid Singapore in becoming a smart financial centre. The MOU underscored SFA's commitment to enhance the FinTech eco-system through active and continuous engagement of polytechnic students. Plans for 2017 included the innovation lab crawls, internships and workshops. Description: Tourism Innovation Competition (TIC) 2016 was organised by Temasek Polytechnic (TP) School of Business (Hospitality & Tourism Management, and Leisure & Event Management divisions) and supported by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Singapore Chapter. TIC's brief came from TP's long-standing industry partner, Singapore Zoo, which was looking to increase visitorship of young adults aged 13-21 years old through the implementation of programmes, activities, events and marketing initiatives. Some 30 teams of students from 15 secondary schools and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) presented their creative proposals at the Tourism Innovation Competition (TIC) and the presentation of the award winners took place on Friday, 3 June, 2016 at the Event Hall, Temasek Tourism Academy, Temasek Polytechnic.

Press release. 02 Dec. 2014. Student entrepreneurs share the gift of design with children this holiday season

Description: Over two weekends in December, on 6 and 7, 13 and 14 December, 40 talented students, alumni and staff from Temasek Polytechnic's (TP) School of Design, in partnership with Sentosa, organised two workshops on silk-screening and card-making for children whose parents were working full-time or incarcerated in prison. The TP designers also set up shop called "Merry Makers Market" to sell unique, hand-crafted limited edition gift items that were both functional and beautiful, with some 15 stalls located at the Sentosa Boardwalk. In the spirit of inclusivity and giving during the holiday season, the children of the Fei Yue Student Care Centre and Salvation Army Prison Support Services - Kids In Play (KIP) received hand-crafted gifts from the TP design students.

Description: The joint polytechnic press release on higher pay for poly grads in 2011 was released on 6 February 2012. It revealed the findings of the Graduate employment survey conducted between October and November 2011 by the five polytechnics. This annual Graduate employment survey was jointly conducted by Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic to ascertain the employment status of polytechnic graduates. The results of the survey showed that polytechnic graduates were in great demand by employers and earned more with higher remuneration, compared to the previous year.

Description: More than 450 projects across fashion, architecture, film, product design and communication design disciplines were showcased from the graduating class of Temasek Polytechnic's School of Design. The Design Show was held at the School of Design on Friday, 3 March 2017. Among the 450 projects showcased was a bus feature for commuters to secure their strollers. With this product created by Jordan Ang, Product & Industrial Design student, parents would be able to push the stroller and hook it into the pram seat feature inside the bus. Also showcased were the heart wrenching drama "Seeing voices" by Charmaine Cheong, a student from the Digital Film & Television diploma course, who shared her inspiring story of caring for her mother with mental illness for the last 15 years; and "Luxury hostel experience for tourists" to overcome the cultural and language barriers of short-term-staying guests, by Ong Yue Li, Interior Architecture & Design student.

Description: In a press release dated 4 June, 2012, Temasek Polytechnic (TP) announced that it was the first institution of higher learning to be certified by Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) as a SAR-147 Approved Maintenance Training Organisation (MTO). TP's School of Engineering was audited and certified by CAAS as a MTO in offering training for its students from the Diploma in Aerospace Engineering and Diploma in Aerospace Electronics. Press release. 04 Oct. 2016. Temasek Polytechnic scientists set to boost productivity of SMEs with Centre of Innovation for Complementary Health Products

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) launched Singapore's first Centre of Innovation for Complementary Health Products (COI CHP) in June 2016. Funded by SPRING Singapore, it was a one-stop service centre for CHP related enterprises. The key capability areas of the COI CHP included chemical and biological testing, glycemic index analysis as well as safety and efficacy studies. These were some of the areas that were showcased at TP's annual Applied Science Show held on Wednesday, 5 October 2016. A two-day International Conference in Analytical Science followed the Applied Science Show. Some of the related projects serviced by the COI CHP on show included: Herbal ingredient screening of GNC's liver protector for quality control and Rapid testing to identify antioxidant compounds in food, herbs and CHP. The opening of the show also included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between TP and its industry partner Eu Yan Sang Singapore. Mr Peter Lam, Principal & CEO, Temasek Polytechnic delivered the welcome address and Dr Lee Chee Wee, Director, TP's School of Applied Science gave the opening address. Press release. 05 Jan. 2017. TP students develop a system that lights up road dividers during heavy downpour to help motorists

Description: Temasek Polytechnic's Engineering Project Show 2017 was held on Friday, 6 January 2017 at its Multi-Purpose Hall. One of the projects showcased was a system that lighted up the road divider when it rained, thus allowing motorists to see better in stormy, thundery conditions. Also among the 56 final-year projects were ideas targeted at the elderly which won awards at the "Cool ideas for better HDB living" competition. Examples of such project were the "Elderly friendly mop & pail", "Elderly safe trolley" and "Smart active wheelchair". Other highlights of the Engineering Project Show were an energy-saving invention which cooled only the bed of a person who was sleeping, rather than the entire room, and a remote controlled drone which was being developed to carry, fly and drop a life buoy to a drowning person at sea.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and NTUC Foodfare signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in the "War on diabetes" to develop healthier meal options that would benefit the masses through NTUC Social Enterprises' reach of dining, supermarket, eldercare and early childhood education chains. A series of healthier choice, low Glycemic Index (GI) halal meals, created by TP's School of Applied Science were made available at NTUC Foodfare's newly opened dining space, Kitchen Loft. TP also created six varieties of low GI ready-to-eat frozen pizzas that were included in NTUC FairPrice's house brand range of products. The new product range had been tested at the region's only accredited GI Research Unit housed at TP and was expected to be made available at NTUC FairPrice stores from April 2017. Mr Ong Ye Kung, Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills) attended the unveiling of the Low GI meals, and also witnessed the MOU signing between TP and NTUC Foodfare. Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) celebrated its seventh annual Global Community Day (GCD) on Friday, 7 July 2017 at TP's Glocal Connect Village. GCD is a celebration of diversity with cross-cultural performances and showcases from countries around the world. The 7th GCD was a multi-sensory extravaganza of food and cultural workshops, as well as vibrant showcases and performances, in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Artists from the Mouth & Foot Painting Artists (MFPA) such as Christina Lau and Tan Kok Leong participated in the celebrations where they shared their inspiring life stories. Also on display at The Art Gallery @ TP's Glocal Connect Village was "We draw ASEAN together", an exhibition of sketches featuring life in Southeast Asian cities, by artists and hobbyists from Urban Sketchers Singapore (USk), which was founded in 2009 by TP's Artist-in-Residence, Madam Tia Boon Sim. Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Education & Ministry of Communications and Information was the guest-of-honour. The event was organised by TP's Centre for TransCultural Studies.

Description: The 15th Polytechnic Student Research Programme (PSRP) award presentation ceremony was held on Thursday, 8 March 2012 at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. A total of 80 final-year PSRP projects were undertaken by the five polytechnics and the team with the best PSRP project from each polytechnic received a cash award at the ceremony. Prof Jackie Y. Ying, the Executive Director at A*STAR Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology was the guest-of-honour. The winning projects from Temasek Polytechic were "Isolation of circulating tumour cells using a novel microsieve cartridge" and "Realising Internet of things (IoT) through service oriented dynamic sensor network". Description: TP InfoTech Day 2017 was held on Wednesday, 8 March 2017 at Main Foyer, Temasek Polytechnic. One of the projects showcased was ScamDefender, a one-stop portal for all things scam-related. The purpose of this project was to provide the public with early detection and warning against potential scams. A few other innovations on show included: FinTech ecosystem project - the Qlikview dashboard showcased key FinTech areas such as Blockchain, InsurTech and Payments & Remittance in a visually appealing manner; Clairvoyance -- a malware hunting solution with the investigation process and time for hunting down the malware greatly shortened; and Smart Distribution Board which used Internet of Things and cloud-based technologies to help users better manage energy usage and keep utility bills down.

Press release. 06 May 2015. TP commemorates 25 years with a 25-hour run that will benefit the elderly and terminally-ill children

Description: In celebration of Temasek Polytechnic's silver jubilee, staff, students, alumni and their families came together over 25 hours to run or walk a collective distance of 10,000 km to "unlock" $25,000 from the SG50 Giving Initiative for Club Rainbow (Singapore) and the All Saints Home. Highlights of the event included a neon run, where participants were splashed with neon paint as they ran. The flag off event of the TP 25-hour Challenge was held on Thursday, 7 May 2015 at the Temasek Polytechnic Triangular Gardens. TP alumni and Project Superstar winner Alfred Sim also participated in the run. Residents of the All Saints Home joined TP's senior management team in the final lap of the 25-hour challenge on Friday 8 May at 5.00 pm. More than 5,000 participants showed their support for this meaningful event organised in celebration of TP's silver jubilee.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic's Engineering Project Show was held on Friday 9 January 2015 at the Temasek Convention Centre. Some 80 final-year projects were showcased. Among them were: an anti-riot shield with a miniature wireless camera and LED strobe lights to capture video footage of the goings-on in front of the shield, and monitored remotely and real-time at a police command centre; an enhanced ground operations safety manual that is on par with international standards; a device to deter cash card thefts from a car's In-Vehicle Unit; a remote controlled drone to save a drowning person at sea.

Description: Stylish protective gear for PMD users, Car-lite malls of the future and Athleisure-Inspired wedding gowns were only some of the 400 innovative projects showcased by the graduating class of TP School of Design. These projects across fashion, architecture, film, product design and communication design disciplines was held from 8 to 11 March 2019 at the Temasek Polytechnic School of Design, Block 28A. In an effort to train young minds to be responsible designers, the Design Show also included Sustainability Awards. The top three projects that address bigger issues of the world through their designs such as reducing poverty, resolving hunger and responsible consumption, received a $1,000 prize each. This year was also the inaugural run of The Pitch a new initiative that saw 11 commercially viable final-year projects spanning the range of fashion, product and communication design ideas, pitched to a panel of angel investors, commercial incubators and venture capitalists.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) announced details of Singapore's first full-time and part-time courses on Big Data in a press conference on Wednesday, 8 October, 2014. The 2 courses launched were the full-time Diploma in Big Data Management & Governance and the part-time Specialist Diploma in Big Data Management. As Singapore pushed towards becoming the world's first smart nation, one that is able to use technology to enhance transport, healthcare and other public services, data engineers, data scientists and data analytics professionals would be needed by businesses, government and ICT companies to leverage exponential data growth for productivity, competitiveness and growth. In the light of this, there was a need to train students to acquire relevant skills that would prepare them for the workplace. Hence, the launch of these two diplomas on big data.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic's Design Show 2015 was held from 9 to 11 April 2015 at the Temasek Polytechnic Auditorium Foyer. Among the 423 projects showcased from the graduating class of Temasek Polytechnic (TP) School of Design were: Needle-free blood glucose monitoring - a device, worn like a wristwatch that could scan and detect blood glucose levels, by Product & Industrial Design student Eddy Iswandi Yap; Building on the Garden City vision -- Environment Design students Dionne Lim proposal to re-green the densely populated Jurong Lake region and turn the Japanese Garden into an eco-haven for migratory birds while Zhao Qiuyu's idea was to reinvent the Japanese Garden into a museum for contemporary fine art that doubled up as a rainwater collection and purification zone; and Living and community spaces for migrant workers - Interior Architecture & Design student Claudia Lim's proposal was to create a modular, stackable housing system that can be fitted into a shop house alley in Singapore. The focus of the Design Show 2015 was to showcase innovative, purposeful ideas to drive change and benefit community.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic's Engineering Project Show was held on 10 & 11 January 2014 at the Temasek Convention Centre. Some 75 projects by final-year Engineering students were on display at the show. The following 4 projects were among the 75 projects showcased, namely an Automated hearing test system on android platform; Reusable microchips to read blood glucose levels in diabetic patients; an Improved training programme for Air India SATS such that the airports in the Indian states of Delhi, Bangalore, Mangalore, Hyderabad and Trivanderum had adopted it; and Elderly-friendly stove indicator.

Description: Mrs Josephine Teo, Senior Minister of State, Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Transport, officially opened the Temasek Aviation Academy (TAA) on 8 Jan 2016. The 6,000 sqm facility comprises aircraft technical training workshops, an aircraft-access training hangar with a Hawker Siddeley 700A business jet, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) development facilities, a closed-looped wind tunnel, full motion flight simulators, and a 3D modeling and simulation studio, bringing together all of TP's Aviation and Aerospace Engineering capabilities into an integrated training outfit. Mrs Teo presented certificates to 14 graduates of the 1st and 2nd runs of the SkillsFuture Earn and Learn Programme for the Aerospace Sector during the launch of TAA.

Press release. 08 Nov. 2017. TP students adapt Philip's lighting technology to develop first-of-its-kind smart solutions

Description: From a poly-wide student competition entitled "Light beyond illumination: the smart campus edition", resulting from a partnership between Temasek Polytechnic and Philips Lighting, two teams of students from Temasek Polytechnic's Diploma in Integrated Facility Management and the Diploma in Infocomm & Network Engineering emerged as winners with their projects entitled "MINESpace" and "Occupants' Comfort". The top two teams were rewarded with a trip to the Philips' headquarters in Amsterdam, and upon their return, were mentored by experts from Philips Lighting to further develop their ideas into reality. "MINESpace", a system that combined a mobile app with the smart lights installed in two blocks of student apartments at the polytechnic enabled the entire process of nightly roll calls, inventory checking and fault reporting to be automated -- a first for any boarding school or hostel in Singapore. The 2nd project "Occupants' Comfort" made use of smart lights (called Power Over Ethernet, or PoE) to enhance the visual and thermal comfort of a classroom. Description: In its continuing effort to promote lifelong learning, Temasek Polytechnic (TP) would offer its alumni over 100 courses as part of the SkillsFuture Series to support working adults with industry-relevant training, making it the first polytechnic to offer free training places to its alumni. This would take place from January 2018 and some 1,500 TP graduates would have an opportunity to benefit from one free SkillsFuture Series course. Temasek Polyrechnic co-leads the cybersecurity area under the SkillsFuture Series, and would progressively roll out more courses to support the training needs of working adults. These courses are tiered across three proficiency levels to cater to Singaporeans at different stages of learning -- basic, intermediate and advance.

Description: The Graduate Employment Survey, jointly conducted by the five polytechnics in 2012, revealed that polytechnic graduates enjoyed an increase in starting salaries. This increase applied to both fresh graduates and post-National Service (NS) graduates. The higher starting salaries of graduates attested to the strong value of a polytechnic education, and showed how employers continued to appreciate skilled polytechnic graduates.The annual Graduate Employment Survey was jointly conducted by Nanyang Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic to ascertain the employment status of polytechnic graduates.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) set up two "Security Operations Centres" on campus to monitor traffic and security in cyberspace while also acting as a learning enterprise for its students. The centres were a result of MOUs signed with IBM and RSA, Security Division of EMC. Students from the Diplomas in Cyber & Digital Security and Digital Forensics interned at the Security Operations Centres to gain hands-on experience in analysing security threats. Description: Professor Tommy Koh, Ambassador-at-Large officiated at the launch of Temasek Polytechnic's commemorative recipe book for the community on Tuesday, 13 October 2015 at the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall (Little Paradise Hall). The recipe book titled "Singapore hawker classics unveiled: decoding 25 favourite dishes!" was developed by staff and students from TP's Baking & Culinary Science (BCS) diploma course and produced in celebration of SG50. From mains to desserts, it is a delectable showcase of the best that each ethnic and cultural group in Singapore has to offer such as satay, nonya kaya and chicken rice. Description: Temasek Foundation brought together Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and NTUCs Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) to develop a two-week course called RNA Virus Molecular-based Testing-Training to support the demand for more specialised laboratory technicians. The course curriculum was developed by staff from TPs School of Applied Science, and will train participants to do COVID-19 testing via blended learning and hands-on practical sessions. Lessons will cover basic knowledge and skills needed to work in a molecular diagnostic laboratory for virus detection. The training involves the use of automated commercial diagnostic equipment, contributed by Temasek Foundation.

Press release. 10 Jan. 2017. Over 90% of polytechnic graduates employed within six months in 2016, higher than in 2015

Description: The Graduate Employment Survey, jointly conducted by the five polytechnics in 2016, showed that the overall employment rate increased for both fresh graduates and post-National Service (NS) graduates compared to 2015. The overall employment rate in 2016 was 90.6% for fresh graduates, and 95.4% for post-NS graduates. Among the full-time permanently employed respondents, both fresh graduates and post-NS graduates from the Health Sciences category earned the highest median gross monthly salary compared to their peers.

Description: More than 70 first-year students from Temasek Polytechnic (TP) School of Design Digital Film & Television course had the invaluable opportunity of working alongside Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM), Mr Goh Chok Tong, to produce a series of short films in celebration of 40 years of Marine Parade memories. The result, produced in a mere four months, was a collection of stories that brought to life the colourful memories of the people who grew up in Marine Parade - the MParaders. These stories of love, pain, friendship, camaraderie, second-chances and perseverance also showcased the many different aspects of Singapore's history, beautiful architecture, multi-ethnicity and kampong spirit, which would resonate with many Singaporeans. An under-the-stars picnic premiere of "Our stories, our home: 40 years of Marine Parade" was held on Saturday, 12 March 2016 at 7.45pm at Block 50A Marine Terrace with Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM) Goh Chok Tong as the guest-of-honour. Prizes were awarded for best film, direction, cinematography, script and editing. Generous funding for the partnership came from the Lee Foundation and Marine Parade CCC.

Description: A survey conduced by staff of Temasek Polytechnic's retail management diploma on some 300 youths aged between 16 - 24 revealed that the following factors made for a happier shopping experience: a good retail mix, a clean environment, easy access to public transportation and clear directional signs. The survey done was conducted at the launch of the inaugural National Retailing Competition in June 2013, to better understand youth shopping experience in Singapore. Most of the youths favoured retailers such as Isetan, Takashimaya, Challenger, Courts, H&M, Top Shop, NTUC Fairprice, 7-Eleven, Cheers, Watsons and Guardian.

Description: The Centre for Applied Nutrition Services (CANS) was launched at Temasek Polytechnic's Nutrition Symposium on 19 June 2012. The Centre provided holistic support service in areas of applied nutrition to the various food and health-related industries as well as the nutrition, health and wellness sectors. According to Dr Lee Chee Wee, Director, School of Applied Science, TP had received close to half a million dollars from industry collaborations and consultancy services related to food & nutrition projects as well as healthy product development. Completed projects included healthier cheesecakes from AllanBakes, glycemic index (GI) testing of products from local and multinational companies, HACCP/food safety and nutritional analysis.
