Freshmen Orientation Grand Finale 2000

Description: The highlight of TP's Week Zero Orientation Camp 2000 was the traditional "Final Clash", which would see students from the four Schools competing against each other in the telematch and cheerleading competition. Temasek Engineering School emerged as the winner for this year. Over 4000 freshmen sold cute little teddy bears by Sasha Bear Company at various locations around Singapore to raise funds for the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), National Kidney Foundation's Children's Kidney Transplant Centre, and TP's Campus Care Network. BG George Yeo, Minister for Trade and Industry, was the Guest-of-Honour for the orientation finale held at the Triangular Garden on 30 June 2000. Five confetti canons were fired, and two students abseiled down from the sixth-storey corridor accompanied by fireworks to welcome him.

Graduation ceremony 1991

Description: On 30 July 1991, the Polytechnic held its' first Graduation Ceremony at the Singapore Labour Foundation (SLR) Auditorium. 89 graduates from the Design Course (Interior Architecture Design, Graphic Design and Product Design) trooped upstage to receive their diplomas in their resplendent gowns. The Guest-of-Honour for the occassion was the Senior Minister of State for Education, Dr Tay Eng Soon.

Description: On 7 August 1992, the Polytechnic held its' second Graduation Ceremony at the Singapore Labour Foundation (SLR) Auditorium for 87 graduates from the School of Design. Of the 87 granduands, 59 were from Graphic Design, 12 from Interior Architecture & Design and 16 from Product Design. The Guest-of-Honour for the occassion was Mr Lim Boon Heng, the Senior Minister of State for Trade & Industry.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic's third Graduation Ceremony was held at the World Trade Centre Harbour Pavilion on 19th August 1993 for 588 full-time students from the Schools of Business, Design and Information Technology and Applied Science and 84 part-time students from the Management Diplomas in Accounting and Finance, and Sales and Marketing and the Certificate in Library and Information Studies courses. The ceremony officiated by Minister for Education, Mr. Lee Yock Suan, was in essence the graduation of the Polytechnic's first cohort since these graduates had enrolled as first-year students when it was established in 1990.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic 1994 Graduation Ceremony was held at the Kallang Theatre on 19 July. It saw the first batch of graduands from the School of Engineering Electronics and Mechatronics courses and School of Business Operation Management course. The Tay Eng Soon Award was also presented to the most outstanding ITE graduate for the first time. The award was to commemorate the late Dr Tay Eng Soon who was Chairman of the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) and Minister-in-charge of the polytechnics. Rear Admiral (NS) Teo Chee Hean, Minister of State for Finance and Minister of State for Communications was the Guest-of-Honour for session 1. Mr David Chin, Deputy CEO, Trade Development Board was the Guest-of-Honour for session 2.

It also saw the first batch of 18 graduates trained in the Media Design specialisation of the Visual Communication course. Description: TP Graduation Ceremony 1998: Dare to Dream, was held at the Temasek Polytechnic Auditorium from 15 to 19 August 1998. The ceremonies spanned over ten sessions and were also held in the evenings for the first time. Guest-of-Honour, RADM Teo Chee Hean, Minister for Education and 2nd Minister for Defence officiated the opening session held on Saturday, 15 August 1998 at 9.00 am. A total of 2589 students graduated from 19 full-time diploma courses and 14 part-time courses.

Human Wheelbarrow Challenge at TP

Description: Temasek Polytechnic set a new Guinness World Record for the largest human wheelbarrow race. A total of 1,378 participants joined the event held on 24 Apr 2009 at the Sports Complex. This defeated the previous record of 1,044 participants set by the Carey Baptist Grammar School of Melbourne on 9 Sep 2008. At the same event, the Polytechnic also made it into the Singapore Book of Records, by setting 4 records for the fastest human wheelbarrow race, fastest human wheelbarrow relay, the longest human wheelbarrow chain, and the longest human wheelbarrow endurance. This event marked the end of freshmen orientation and the beginning of the new academic year. Besides welcoming the freshmen into the TP family, the event also aimed to further strengthen the TP camaraderie.

Life Sciences Week

Description: The first Life Sciences Week organised by Temasek Applied Science School was held on 18 to 23 June 2001. The event comprised of 14 exhibition booths representing various aspects of the Life Sciences, workshops for staff and students, launched of the Life Sciences website and a Healthy Cooking Competition. The event ended with the finals of the Interschool Healthy Cooking Competition for secondary schools. The competition, jointly organised with The Singapore National Heart Association (SNHA), attracted 127 teams from 67 secondary schools. The students cooked up scrumptious, healthy "on-the-go" meals within a budget of $5. The winner was a team comprising of two boys from Tanjong Katong Secondary School.

Mural Painting in the Gymnasium
