Temasek Polytechnic Open House 2006, day 2

Description: The Temasek Polytechnic Open House was held from 19 to 21 January 2006. The annual event was held to enable secondary school students to make an informed choice regarding their educational path after they have completed their studies. Visitors were given the opportunity to meet up with the lecturers from the respective schools to find out more on the diploma courses offered. Mr Boo Kheng Hua, Principal & CEO and senior management staff took the opportunity to walk around the different schools to observe the many different activities that were organised to entice the secondary school students to join the polytechnic after their O Level results. I-Guides, a group of volunteer students, were on hand to guide visitors around the campus and brief them about the various schools and activities going on. Some of the highlights of the the 3-day Open House included a couture catwalk featuring works by Apparel Design & Merchandising students, meet & greet Singapore Idol finalists, Olinda Cho and Sylvester Sim, doodle box, Engineering project show -- "experience" 3D computer graphics and visualisation technologies, animal and fish magic, maze of colourings & flavouring, courses & CCA exhibitions, performances by TP students, and water adventures such as dragon boating, canoeing and canoe-polo held at Bedok Reservoir. The finale of the Open House was the Jam and Hop session on 21 January 2006 evening with performances by Leandra and renowned local groups.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) graduation ceremony spanned over 16 sessions from 3 to 11 May 2017. A total of 5,800 students received their diplomas and post-diploma qualifications from TP's full-time and part-time courses. Day 2 session 4 graduation ceremony was held on Thursday, 4 May 2017 at 9.30am at the Temasek Convention Centre. Guest of honour for the ceremony was Dr Satish Lele, Senior Vice President at Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific. Day 2: Session 4 - Graduands from the School of Engineering: Diploma in Aviation Management & Services, Diploma in Business Process & Systems Engineering and Diploma in Computer Engineering.

New online audio-visual catalogue and shelf guides : red colour theme

Description: Temasek Polytechnic Library used a "red" colour theme to draw attention when it launched the online audio-visual materials catalog in 2001. Located prominently in front of the Learning Resource Centre (LRC) counter at level 4, the catalogue was developed using Procite, the popular bibliographic management software. The audio-visual catalogue was used to search and list all titles of a particular format (for example, music CDs, video tapes) or topic (for example, rock climbing). Virtual browsing of the shelves from the AV Catalogue PC was also possible. Alternatively, users could stroll down the aisles between the video shelves to browse the titles under the bright red coloured shelf guides.

Library book fair October 2010

Description: The Temasek Polytechnic Library organised a book selection fair with the tag line "You choose, we buy" on 28 October 2010. It was held at the Podium area, Level 3 by the book vendor UBS Library Services. The fair was targetted at staff and students from the Schools of Applied Science and Engineering. The aim was to reach out and encourage them to participate in developing the library collections. The books available for selection covered a wide range of subjects related to engineering and applied sciences. By the end of the event, more than 250 books were selected.

Career Carnival at Youth Park

Description: Temasek Polytechnic organised the first Career Carnival at the Youth Park on Sommerset Road on 13 and 14 February 1999. Visitors were not only able to obtain information on the 27 full-time courses, they were also shown glimpses of the vibrant campus life. Youths and parents were also invited to participate in the TP Live chat sessions where they could log on and chat with experts on education opportunities after the 'O' Level Examinations and the "The Spirit of Adventure and Aspirations of Youths". The Guest-of-Honour was Members of Parliament, Mr S Iswaran.

TP Buddy Day

Description: About 200 students from 35 secondary schools got a taste of poly life during the Buddy Day at Temasek Polytechnic held on 28 January 1999. The annual event was organised by the institution's Polytechnic Outreach Centre. The students were paired up with TP buddy who accompanied them to lectures, tutorials, lab sessions and facilities around campus. Lecturers were also on hand at the workshops to introduce them to the equipment and to answer any questions that they may have.

Beyond O Level, Poly/JC seminar 1999

Description: The Beyond O Level, a Poly/JC seminar was jointly organised by The New Paper and Temasek Polytechnic on 6 February 1999. It was held at Temasek Polytechnic campus and sponsored by American International Assurance (AIA). O Level holders and their parents attended the seminar to find out what the various educational institutions had to offer. The guest speakers for the seminar were: Mrs Susan Chan Yoke Kate, principal of Tampines Junior College; Mr Moses Wong, Registrar and Director/Student Services of Temasek Polytechnic; and Mrs Sita Singh, a career guidance specialist from the Ministry of Education. Tibs great bendy bus squeeze: Guinness world record

Description: On 6 July 1998, a Guinness world record was set when 438 Temasek Polytechnic students squeezed into a Trans-Island (Tibs) bendy bus. The record-breaking event was a grand finale to a week-long orientation programme. Tibs bought a bandanna at $5 for every student that squeezed into the bus. Proceeds from the Bandanna sale went to four Singapore welfare organisations - Singapore Association for the Deaf, the Handicap Welfare Association, the Singapore Association for the Visually Handicapped and the Spastic Children's Association of Singapore.

Description: The Beyond O Level, a Poly/JC seminar was jointly organised by The New Paper and Temasek Polytechnic on 11 January 1997 and held at Temasek Polytechnic campus. The four speakers for the seminar were: Mr Eugene Wijeysingha, former headmaster of Raffles Institution and columnist on educational matters for The New Paper; Mr Moses Wong, registrar of Temasek Polytechnic; Madam Leong Fan Chin, principal of Hwa Chong Junior College; and Dr Law Song Seng, chief executive officer of the Institute of Technical Education. Students speakers from the different institutions also shared their experiences in school. The seminar ended with a question-and-answer session.

Mural Painting in the Gymnasium

Temasek Polytechnic Open House 1993

The secondary school students were given the opportunity to meet up with the lecturers from the respective schools, have a chat with them on the diploma courses offered, tour the campus and meet up with TP students to find out more about the outstanding facilities, the different options open to them and life in the campus. Some of the activities provided during the 3-day open house included a fashion show, performances by TP students (Malay Dance Group, Salvo Drums Troupe, The Blazers cheerleading team, concert with live band, percussion music) culminating in the Jam & Hop celebration with Zouk DJ Andrew Chow playing live non-stop hit music.

Beyond O Level Seminar 2010

Description: The annual Beyond O Level Seminar (BOL) was held on 9 January 2010 at the Temasek Convention Centre. It was a must-visit event that catered exclusively to the needs of parents and students awaiting the O level results. Organised by Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and held in conjunction with TP's Open House, the aim of the informative seminar was to address the many questions parents and students had regarding a polytechnic education in Singapore. There were sharing sessions by Ms Sharon Soh, TP Registrar, Mr Sahfahri Supar, TP alumnus and current TP students as well as a Q&A session comprising of senior academic and adminstrative staff to answer any questions from the audience concerning the courses available, admission requirements and student life. A lucky draw and guided tours to schools of their choice were also available to students and their parents.

Poly-ITE Social Innovation Research Forum 2012

Description: The inaugural Poly-ITE Social Innovation Research (SIR) Forum - a platform to showcase projects co-funded by Tote Board as part of the Social Innovation Research (SIR) Fund was held at the Auditorium, Singapore Polytechnic on Friday, 27 April 2012. Supported by the National Council of Social Services (NCSS), the SIR Forum 2012 showcased 19 of the research projects related to healthcare, special needs, the elderly, and the environment, undertaken by staff and students from the Institute of Technical Education, Nanyang, Ngee Ann, Republic, Singapore and Temasek Polytechnics. Presentations were made by representatives from each polytechnic and the ITE. Various voluntary welfare organizations under NCSS were also present to share real-life challenges faced by the social service community. The SIR Fund provided seed funding for R&D projects that bring social and environmental benefits, and enables these institutions to devise creative and feasible solutions for deployment. The keynote speaker for the Forum was Mr Willie Cheng, Member, Lien Centre for Social Innovation and Chariman, TOTE Board SIR Fund Selection Panel.

Glocal Connect Village : coaster

The environmentally friendly handmade coaster using a proprietary green technology developed by the School of Applied Science staff and students.
