The Tourism Academy @ Sentosa Resource Centre

Date: 2005 - 2011

Content Type: Still Image

Description: The Tourism Academy @ Sentosa Resource Centre (TASRC) officially opened its doors to Temasek Polytechnic (TP) staff and students pursuing the Hospitality and Tourism Management diploma course on 11 May 2005. The Resource Centre was run by TP Library with staff being seconded to work there on a rotational basis. The Resource Centre occupied one of the 4 colonial barracks that was restored and converted into the Tourism Academy @ Sentosa (TAS) campus in December 2004, a collaborative venture between Temasek Polytechnic and Sentosa Leisure Group. Renovation works on the Resource Centre started in early 2005, and by April, furniture, built-in fittings, equipment and IT setup were completed and the Centre was ready for occupation. The TASRC offered a niche collection of titles in subjects ranging from hospitality, culinary arts, travel to leisure. It also offered a selection of fiction titles, newspapers, periodicals and AV items such as movies and music CDs, to meet the learning and leisure needs of its members. However, with the closure of the Tourism Academy @ Sentosa on 26 August 2011, the Resource Centre ceased operations, and library staff started the big move back to TP Library at Tampines. This involved stock-taking of over 7,000 items consisting of books, journals and audio-visuals materials; RFID retagging of the resources as well as dismantling and packing of the 3M security gates, audio-visual and computer equipment and peripherals in preparation for the items to be transported back to the Tampines campus by 30 September 2011.
