The Parents as Partners in Career Planning Seminar was held on 4 October 1997. The seminar aimed to help potential applicants make informed choices for their future. Close to 1,000 parents and their teenager children attended the seminar to seek information concerning choice of courses and career prospects.

Guest of Honour, Mr Charles Chong, MP for Pasir Ris GRC, gave a keynote address on "Parents' Role In Career Planning. Other speakers at the seminar included Mr Goh Ah Bee, Managing Director, Leica Instruments (S) Pte Ltd, who gave insights into the"Rising Profile of Polytechnic Education and Career Opportunities", and Mr Ang Keng Loo, Deputy Principal of Temasek Polytechnic, who spoke on "TP - Your Partner in Career Planning".
