Description: Inspired by the initiative to establish Singapore as the world's first Smart Nation, Temasek Polytechnic (TP) set up a Smart Campus Platform that leveraged on a comprehensive and robust IT infrastructure and innovative technologies to make better decisions and improve the experience of studying and working at the Polytechnic. TP collaborated with Cisco Systems, EMC, Johnson Controls (S) Pte Ltd, NCS/SingTel and SAS Singapore on the Smart Campus Platform project. Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) announced details of Singapore's first full-time and part-time courses on Big Data in a press conference on Wednesday, 8 October, 2014. The 2 courses launched were the full-time Diploma in Big Data Management & Governance and the part-time Specialist Diploma in Big Data Management. As Singapore pushed towards becoming the world's first smart nation, one that is able to use technology to enhance transport, healthcare and other public services, data engineers, data scientists and data analytics professionals would be needed by businesses, government and ICT companies to leverage exponential data growth for productivity, competitiveness and growth. In the light of this, there was a need to train students to acquire relevant skills that would prepare them for the workplace. Hence, the launch of these two diplomas on big data.

Description: Her Excellency, Dr Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister of Women's Affairs, Cambodia presented the Certificate in Food Science and Nutrition to 30 women from the Cambodian Ministry of Women's Affairs (MWA) who were the first to complete a 4-year Food Science & Nutrition Certification Programme at Temasek Polytechnic (TP). The presentation ceremony took place on Global Community Day 2014, Friday, 7 November 2014 at TP's Glocal Connect Village. This programme was part of the agreement undertaken between TP and Temasek Foundation (TF) in 2011 for the execution of "Public Health and Nutrition Intervention Training Programme" in Cambodia.

Description: The award presentation for the winners of Tourism Innovation Competition 2013 (TIC) was held on Tuesday, 16 July 2013. Some 49 teams of students from 24 schools took part in the 2013 competition with the theme "Youth tourism". TIC was organised by Temasek Polytechnic's School of Business (Diploma in Hospitality & Tourism Management, and Diploma in Leisure & Resort Management) and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board. It is an annual competition started in 2010, and the aim was to arm student participants with opportunities to learn more about the tourism industry as well as career opportunities available.

Description: DDB Worldwide launched "Equator", a global centre of excellence for creative technology and innovation in 2016. A satelite office "Equator@TP" was also set up in Temasek Polytechnic (TP) at the end of the year to tap diverse talents from the School of Informatics & IT, School of Design, School of Engineering and School of Business to create prototype concepts for commercial and community needs. Mr Peter Lam, Principal and CEO, Temasek Polytechnic, commented on the collaboration as a first-of-its-kind between DDB Worldwide and a tertiary institution in Singapore. He said that TP students would be given valuable opportunities for authentic learning as they work in multi-disciplinary teams, on real-life projects, with leading practitioners from the creative industry at TP campus.

Press release. 27 Feb. 2015. The University of Western Australia (UWA) and Temasek Polytechnic (TP) celebrate 10 years of student exchange

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and the University of Western Australia (UWA) celebrated a decade-long partnership of student exchange on 27 February 2015. The exchange programme provided almost 400 students (170 students from TP's Diploma in Communications and Media Management (CMM) and about 200 from UWA students) an opportunity to learn more about Australian education and culture for TP students and for Australian students to understand TP life and Singapore culture. His Excellency, the Australian High Commissioner to Singapore, Mr Philip Green, Professor Krishna Sen, Dean of the Faculty of Arts at UWA, Mr Daniel Yeow, Director, TP's School of Business as well as senior staff and students from both institutions attended the celebration held at Temasek Polytechnic. Sarah Ison of UWA and Jolene Chea of TP were among the many students who had benefitted from the exchange programme.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic's "Meeting Young Minds @ BIT Project Show" was held on Wednesday, 24 February 2016 at Temasek Polytechnic Main Foyer and Auditorium 2. One of the 30 final year projects showcased was the creation of an eParking mobile application and other innovative technical solutions to boost productivity and ease the workload of parking enforcement officers with the use of QR-code scanning. The simple-to-use Android application allowed drivers and motorists to select the location, period of time and load funds to fulfill a parking session. Some of the other final year projects showcased included "Tri-factor authentication mechanism to track event attendance" and "On-the-go volunteering". Industry partners like honestbee.com and SAFESURE Engineering also took part in the discussion on driving innovations with technology. Mr Aloysius Lau, panelist and MD of SAFESURE was a BIT alumnus.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and A*STAR's Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE) developed a new nano-engineered screen protector that turned the ordinary screens of handheld devices into 3D displays. It would be marketed by start-up, Nanoveu Pte Ltd. The unique plastic film could also potentially be used as next generation security tokens employed by banks and corporations. Dr Jaslyn Law, the IMRE scientist and Mr Frank Chan, the TP scientist who led the overall National Research Foundation (NRF) funded project worked on the product since 2010. Mrs Lay-Tan Siok Lie, Deputy Principal of TP, Mr Alfred Chong, Nanoveu Pte Ltd Founder and CEO and Prof Andy Hor, Executive Director of IMRE shared their comments on the product.

Description: The Graduate Employment Survey (GES), jointly conducted by the five polytechnics in 2017, showed that polytechnic graduates continue to be in demand in the job market. The overall employment rate six months after graduation was at 87.3% (86.4% for fresh graduates, and 89.8% for post-NS graduates). Although there was a decline from 2016, employment rate remains healthy. The decline is partly due to year-on-year changes in labour market and economic conditions, and preferences of students upon graduation.

Description: The Graduate Employment Survey (GES), jointly conducted by the five polytechnics, showed that polytechnic graduates continue to be sought after by employers and commanded higher salaries in 2018 than in 2017. Among respondents who entered the labour force, the overall employment rate six months after graduation was 89.5%, 2.2 percentage points higher than in 2017. The proportion who were unemployed and still looking for a job or in involuntary part-time/temporary employment decreased by 4.4 percentage points.

Description: The October intake of Temasek Polytechnic's School of Engineering showcased 30 final-year projects at the Engineering Project Show on 25 July 2013. Among the projects showcased were Aqua saver shower system -- a finalist in the Cool Ideas for Better HDB Living competition, this shower system automatically diverted water to a holding tank if its temperature was outside a pre-specified range, thereby saving water; Contactless charger -- a prototype of a contactless charger for mobile phones, laptops and other mobile devices; and Easy gripper -- this Tan Kah Kee Young Inventors' Award nominee for 2014 was a device which helped the elderly or those with weak fingers or sweaty palms to pull out an AC plug from its socket effortlessly and safely.

Description: TP InfoTech Day 2018 is an annual showcase of innovative projects by the final year students of the Temasek Polytechnic School of Informatics & IT. This year’s theme was “Digital Innovation and Transformation – Start Small, Think Big” and the projects were divided into three sub-themes: Future of Tech & FinTech, Growth & Opportunities in AI and Analytics and Next-Gen Security Evolution. The event showcased 30 projects developed by graduating students, some of which were done in collaboration with industry partners and various government agencies. The project show took place on Tuesday, 20 March 2018 at the Polytechnic Foyer, and was opened to the public. A seminar with talks by IT professionals took place concurrently at Auditorium 2 of the polytechnic.

Description: TP students created a Virtual Classroom App for Preschoolers which provided a full curriculum of services such as interactive lessons through games where children can see 3D objects in front of them. Real-time multiplayer games encourage teamwork and promote social skill development, and a point reward system can be exchanged for pets for a quicker assimilation of the subject being taught. The app was one of the 25 final-year projects developed by the graduating students of TP's Business Information Technology (BIT) course. The public can viewed these projects on 21 February 2018 at Meeting Young Minds @ BIT Project Show held at Temasek Polytechnic Main Foyer and Auditorium.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) School of Design partnered with BERNINA Singapore, a Swiss international manufacturer of sewing and embroidery systems to launch the TP-BERNINA Creative Studio, a collaborative workspace at TPs School of Design (DES), fitted with Bernina's sewing machines, embroidery machines, overlockers and embroidery software. The partnership was cemented with the signing of an MOU between TP and BERNINA by Mr Lim Chong Jin, Director, TP's School of Design and Ms Katharina Ueltschi, Director, BERNINA Singapore, on Friday, 30 October 2020. Description: The inaugural Joint Poly-ITE Tourism Career Fair 2018 was launched on 31 October 2018 by Temasek Polytechnic (TP), which leads the Tourism Sector-Co-ordination team (SCT). The event, Tourism Transformation, raised tourism job profiles and encouraged students to pursue tourism sector careers, as well as served as a platform for tourism partners to showcase career progression pathways and engage potential talents. The Skills Framework for Tourism was also unveiled to support the manpower strategies, highlighting pivotal jobs and critical skills needed in the Tourism sector. It provides information on the sector, career pathways, identifies 109 existing and emerging skills and competencies across 69 occupations/job roles, as well as training programmes which support the development of these skills.
