Temasek Regatta 2014

Description: The grand finale of the Temasek Polytechnic freshmen orientation 2014 was the regatta held at the Bedok Reservoir. Comprising seven official races, including freshmen, juniors/seniors, alumni and staff categories, the regatta is a must-attend for everyone who is part of the TP family. Senior management staff, including Principal & CEO Mr Boo Kheng Hua, were present to cheer on all teams participating in the dragon boat races. The School of Engineering emerged champion, while the School of Applied Science won the best cheer and most spirited school.

Description: The Temasek Polytechnic graduation ceremony spanned over 14 sessions from 17, 20 to 23 May 2013. Guest of honour, Mr Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Education, officiated at the opening session held on Friday, 17 May 2013 at 9.00am at the Temasek Convention Centre. A total of 5007 students graduated from 52 full-time diploma courses and 6 part-time specialist diploma and diploma courses. Day 3: Session 6. Temasek Polytechnic facade and main entrance

Description: As part of a campus redevelopment project, construction works on the Temasek Polytechnic main entrance which took place from February 2012 was completed by early January 2013. The new entrance provided better visibility and eased congestion along the slip road during peak hours. New covered linkway extends from the bus stop, going up the ramp, and leading to the Plaza provide improved protection from the heat and rain. A water-feature wall and an air-conditioned foyer extension were also added. The TP facade was given a fresh coat of white with accent walls in different colours to create visual interest.

TPRAWKS 2013, day 3

Description: A 3-day non residential camp for secondary school students, especially for those taking their O-level exams in 2013. It was held on 18 to 20 November 2013. The objective was to allow these students to experience TP's way of life. Students were divided into 6 different groups (poprawk, glamrawk, grungerawk, fusionrawk, britrawk, punkrawk) and were taken on a tour of the 6 different schools in TP. Lecturers were on hand to explain the types of diploma courses available, and under their expert guidance, students had a sneak peek into the courses that were of interest to them. One of the camp highlights was being entertained by celebrities, comprising Singapore's favourite contractor, Phua Chu Kang aka Gurmit Singh, and the cast of MediaCorp's Mata Mata (George Young, Paul Foster, Adam Chen and Nadiah M Din) and taking part in an impromptu chapteh session. For the first time, the mass selfie took place when TPTV hosts Jay and Guru prompted the entire audience together with the celebrities to whip out their phones and take pictures of themselves as a way to show the bond and friendship made during the 3-day camp. Other activities held over the 3 days included sing along sessions, mass dancing, quizzes and games, and water sports at the Bedok Reservoir. The grand finale was the "Jam and Hop" hosted by DJ Kzee and with live performance by the Goodfellas. Present at the grand finale was Mr Brendan Wong, TP's Director of Corporate Communications Dept.

Press release. 21 Mar. 2012. TP students win top prizes at the Singapore Amazing Flying Machines 2012 competition

Description: Aerospace students from Temasek Polytechnic (TP), led by Aerospace lecturer Mr Matthias Christian, won top prizes in the recent Singapore Amazing Flying Machine Competitions 2012 which was organised by DSO National Laboratories and the Singapore Science Centre, and held from 15-17 March 2012. TP took home 5 Gold, 2 Silver, and 2 Bronze medals, as well as the "Best Team Spirit" award at the competition. Team HawxVision won the Best Performance Award (Gold) and the Champions Award (Gold) in the Semi-autonomous category. Team Red Lunar won the Most Creative Award (Gold) and also Best Video Award (Gold) in the Semi-autonomous category. Team Prime won the Best Performance Award (Silver), Best Video Award (Bronze) and Champions Award (Bronze) in the Unconventional (Open) category. Team Spirit won the Most Creative Award (Silver) and Best Presentation Award (Gold) in the same category.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic's Design Show 2015 was held from 9 to 11 April 2015 at the Temasek Polytechnic Auditorium Foyer. Among the 423 projects showcased from the graduating class of Temasek Polytechnic (TP) School of Design were: Needle-free blood glucose monitoring - a device, worn like a wristwatch that could scan and detect blood glucose levels, by Product & Industrial Design student Eddy Iswandi Yap; Building on the Garden City vision -- Environment Design students Dionne Lim proposal to re-green the densely populated Jurong Lake region and turn the Japanese Garden into an eco-haven for migratory birds while Zhao Qiuyu's idea was to reinvent the Japanese Garden into a museum for contemporary fine art that doubled up as a rainwater collection and purification zone; and Living and community spaces for migrant workers - Interior Architecture & Design student Claudia Lim's proposal was to create a modular, stackable housing system that can be fitted into a shop house alley in Singapore. The focus of the Design Show 2015 was to showcase innovative, purposeful ideas to drive change and benefit community.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) launched its cashless campus initiative in November 2017, with about 15,000 staff and students making e-payment transactions at its bi-annual charity fund-raising event, Campus Care Network (CCN) Day held on Friday, 17 November 2017. This CCN Day made history as TP collaborated with DBS Paylah! to enable more than 100 stalls to be supported with e-payment. Staff and students used the PayLah! app to scan the QR code at each stall and transferred the amount to the stall's e-wallet. On 3 November, TP launched its first cashless enabled canteen at the TP School of Design where all stalls had been equipped for e-payment with cards from NETS ATM, NETS Flashpay, OCBC PayAnyone, UOB Mighty as well as DBS Paylah! By the close of 2017, four other campus canteens, food courts and cafes were e-payment equipped

Description: A joint partnership between Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and Temasek Foundation (TF) on a four year nutrition intervention programme in Cambodia. The programme is funded by TF with a grant of about S$223,000 and involved the staff and students of TP's School of Applied Science in imparting knowledge in the areas of nutrition, food hygiene and safety practices to 150 programme participants. Mr Boo Kheng Hua, Principal & CEO, Temasek Polytechnic, Mr Benedict Cheong, Chief Executive Officer, Temasek Foundation and Dr Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister of Women's Affairs, Cambodia shared their comments on the nutrition intervention programme.

The event brought Temasek Polytechnic, Bo Tien Welfare Services and Taman Jurong Malay Activity Executive Club (MAEC) together to bring Chinese New Year festive cheer to the senior citizens.

Press release. 09 Jan. 2014. Temasek Polytechnic to plug Singapore's dearth in cyber security experts with set up of 2 security operations centres to train students'

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) set up two "Security Operations Centres" on campus to monitor traffic and security in cyberspace while also acting as a learning enterprise for its students. The centres were a result of MOUs signed with IBM and RSA, Security Division of EMC. Students from the Diplomas in Cyber & Digital Security and Digital Forensics interned at the Security Operations Centres to gain hands-on experience in analysing security threats. Description: The Tourism Innovation Competition (TIC) was held from 10 -17 June 2014. Some 29 teams of students from 13 secondary schools and the ITE presented their creative proposals reinforcing and reinventing sustainable approaches to hospitality operations, specifically in the hotel sector. The theme for the competition was "Sustainability and the hotel sector" and the winners were announced on Tuesday, 17 June, 2014 at Auditorium 1, Temasek Polytechnic. TIC is an annual competition which started in 2010. It was organised by Temasek Polytechnic's School of Business (Diploma in Hospitality & Tourism Management, and Diploma in Leisure & Resort Management) and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board.

Description: The Graduate Employment Survey, jointly conducted by the five polytechnics in 2016, showed that the overall employment rate increased for both fresh graduates and post-National Service (NS) graduates compared to 2015. The overall employment rate in 2016 was 90.6% for fresh graduates, and 95.4% for post-NS graduates. Among the full-time permanently employed respondents, both fresh graduates and post-NS graduates from the Health Sciences category earned the highest median gross monthly salary compared to their peers.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and NTUC Foodfare signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in the "War on diabetes" to develop healthier meal options that would benefit the masses through NTUC Social Enterprises' reach of dining, supermarket, eldercare and early childhood education chains. A series of healthier choice, low Glycemic Index (GI) halal meals, created by TP's School of Applied Science were made available at NTUC Foodfare's newly opened dining space, Kitchen Loft. TP also created six varieties of low GI ready-to-eat frozen pizzas that were included in NTUC FairPrice's house brand range of products. The new product range had been tested at the region's only accredited GI Research Unit housed at TP and was expected to be made available at NTUC FairPrice stores from April 2017. Mr Ong Ye Kung, Minister for Education (Higher Education and Skills) attended the unveiling of the Low GI meals, and also witnessed the MOU signing between TP and NTUC Foodfare. Dr Lee Chee Wee, Director, School of Applied Science at TP and Mr Perry Ong, CEO at NTUC Foodfare signed the MOU on 5 January 2017.

Description: Assoc Prof Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Social & Family Development, officiated the Joint Poly-ITE Retail Seminar and Career Fair on Thursday, 27 July, at Temasek Polytechnic. The theme for 2017 was "Rethink retail", with a focus on productivity and innovation. Keynote speaker was Mr David Westhead, CEO of RSH (Singapore) Pte Ltd, who also participated in the panel discussion and Q&A that included the CEO of Lazada Singapore, Mr Alexis Lanternier, as well as Ms Yong Lee Ping, Business Analysis and Operations Manager, IKEA. There were also sharing sessions given by successful poly and ITE graduates, Law Choon Keong, Temasek Polytechnic - Class of 2016, Venezia Fong, Nanyang Polytechnic - Class of 2017, Nicole Chin, Singapore Polytechnic - Class of 2015 and Kevin Lim, Ngee Ann Polytechnic - Class of 2009. Launched in 2016, the Joint Poly-ITE Retail Seminar and Career Fair enabled students to gain valuable insights and have a better appreciation for the exciting careers in the retail industry.

Description: Professor Tommy Koh, Ambassador-at-Large officiated at the launch of Temasek Polytechnic's commemorative recipe book for the community on Tuesday, 13 October 2015 at the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall (Little Paradise Hall). The recipe book titled "Singapore hawker classics unveiled: decoding 25 favourite dishes!" was developed by staff and students from TP's Baking & Culinary Science (BCS) diploma course and produced in celebration of SG50. From mains to desserts, it is a delectable showcase of the best that each ethnic and cultural group in Singapore has to offer such as satay, nonya kaya and chicken rice. Dr Lee Chee Wee, Director, School of Applied Science, Temasek Polytechnic gave the welcome address, while Professor Tommy Koh, Ambassador-at-large delivered the opening address at the launch.

Description: Tourism Innovation Competition (TIC) 2016 was organised by Temasek Polytechnic (TP) School of Business (Hospitality & Tourism Management, and Leisure & Event Management divisions) and supported by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Singapore Chapter. TIC's brief came from TP's long-standing industry partner, Singapore Zoo, which was looking to increase visitorship of young adults aged 13-21 years old through the implementation of programmes, activities, events and marketing initiatives. Some 30 teams of students from 15 secondary schools and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) presented their creative proposals at the Tourism Innovation Competition (TIC) and the presentation of the award winners took place on Friday, 3 June, 2016 at the Event Hall, Temasek Tourism Academy, Temasek Polytechnic.

Description: The exhibition entitled "Coffee . Culture . Conversations" was held from 25 September to 28 October 2015 at The Art Gallery @ Temasek Polytechnic, Glocal Connect Village. The exhibition was organized by Temasek Polytechnic's Centre for TransCultural Studies (CTS), in collaboration with Maria Filatova, Dutch Colony Coffee and Santino Coffee Specialist. The Gallery exhibition featured Maria's caffeinated craft in a wall mural depicting the contemporary coffee culture in Singapore, along with a selection of her coffee paintings which did not have a protective layer so that visitors could smell the coffee! This curated exhibition was opened to the public and included workshops in Coffee painting and Latte art & barista appreciation.
