Freshmen Orientation Camp 2012

Description: The annual Freshmen Orientation Camp (FOC) is a non-compulsory orientation programme organised by the Temasek Polytechnic Students' Union (TPSU) for full-time students. Freshmen may choose between a 3-day non-residential camp or a 3-day, 2-night residential camp. The orientation camp was held over two weeks, from 9 - 20 Apr, with varying dates and duration across the Schools. The activities planned during the 2-week orientation, including the Week-Zero camp, allowed students to familiarise themselves with their School environment and provided ample opportunities to make new friends, network among peers, and experience the vibrant TP campus life.

Temasek Polytechnic Open House 2012, day 1

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) Open House 2012 was held on 5 - 7 January 2012. The annual open house was held to enable secondary school students to make an informed choice regarding their educational path after they have completed their studies. The secondary school students were given the opportunity to meet up with the lecturers from the respective schools, have a chat with them on the diploma courses offered, tour the campus and meet up with Temasek Polytechnic students to find out more about the outstanding facilities, the different options open to them and life in the campus. Some of the activities provided during the 3-day open house included a fashion show, performances by TP students (a roller skating routine, yo-yo performance, concert with live band and TP's own DivoDiva with a medley of songs, students doing TP's signature "Chicky dance", and percussion music), music by popular local band the Goodfellas and live broadcast from the Plaza with DJ Charmaine Yee from Radio 91.3FM.

Poly level award presentation ceremony 2012

Description: On 14 May 2012, 11 top students from the graduating cohort were honoured in a room filled with proud parents, secondary school principals and teachers, in a pre-graduation ceremony as details of the challenges they faced in the pursuit of their dreams were read out. For the first time, two new top awards were presented at the Polytehcnic's graduation ceremony: the Lee Kong Chian Award which is given to top non-Science and Technology graduates from the School of Business, School of Design and School of Humanities & Social Sciences; and the Lee Kong Chian Award for All-Round Excellence which gives commendation and recognition to students who excel in both their studies and co-curricular activities. The awards were presented by Mr Boo Kheng Hua, Principal & CEO. Week Zero Orientation Camp

Description: TP's Week Zero Orientation Camp was the biggest of all the orientations -- the time when freshies from all six schools come together. Each school held many activities, from stay-in camps to campus tours, large-scale games, and even a tug-of-war between students and staff. The Camp orientates students within their school, providing an in-depth insight into their school and bonding the freshmen at the School level. The Week-Zero Camp is organized by the respective Studies Club of each School. The various school orientation programmes took place from 15-19 April 2013, ending with the annual Regatta on the last day. Freshmen from the School of Design had a wonderful time participating in the numerous activities organised by their Studies Club.

Joint admissions exercise 2014

Description: The Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE) 2014 was conducted at Temasek Polytechnic from Monday 13 Jan to Friday 17 Jan 2014. The objective of the JAE was to allow students who sat for their O-level exams to apply for admission to courses in the polytechnics of their choice. TP organised the course preview talks for applicants and parents who wanted more information about the courses offered by TP. Besides the course preview talks, prospective applicants and their parents could chat online with TP's course advisors from 9.30 am to 1.00 am from 11 to 16 Jan 2014 and from 9.30 am to 4.00 pm on 17 Jan 2014.

Temasek Polytechnic Open House 2005, day 1

Description: The Temasek Polytechnic Open House was held from 17 to 19 February 2005. The annual event was held to enable secondary school students to make an informed choice regarding their educational path after they have completed their studies. Visitors were given the opportunity to meet up with the lecturers from the respective schools to find out more on the diploma courses offered. I-Guides, a group of volunteer students, were on hand to guide visitors around the campus and brief them about the various schools and activities going on. Some of the activities provided during the 3-day open house included a fashion show, performances by TP students and for the first time ever, water adventures such as dragon boating, canoeing and canoe-polo were organised and held at Bedok Reservoir. The finale of the Open House was the Jam and Hop session on 19 February 2005 evening with entertainment by renowed local groups such as Pug Jelly, Noize and Turning Point.

Mr Daniel Yeow, Director, Temasek Business School addressed the freshmen, followed by performances from the Salvo Drums and Dance Ensemble and the singing of TP anthem by freshmen and staff. TPRAWKS 2010, day 1

Description: A 3-day non residential camp for secondary school students, especially for those taking their O-level exams in 2010. It was held on 18 to 20 November 2010. The objective was to allow these students to experience TP's way of life. Lecturers from the different academic schools were present to explain the types of diploma courses available, and under their expert guidance, students had a taste of hands-on poly education. Some of the activities held during the 3-day camp included sing along sessions, team building games, solving puzzles and challenges and manoeuvering through various obstacles course like having their legs tied together with those of another student and navigating through spider webs, under tables and bamboo poles, mass dancing held at the sports hall, and sports especially water sports like dragon boating and canoeing in Bedok Reservoir. The grand finale, "Jam and hop" had students grooving to the music of DJ Andrew T and performances by local bands Sleeq and The Good Fellas.

Description: On 21 December 2012, Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for students from TP to embark on a Structured Internship with Major Projects Programme with SGBC and its member companies. This partnership enabled students from the Diploma in Green Building and Sustainability (GBS) and Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) gained exposure to green building initiatives and developments and promoted a mindset of green building and environmental sustainability amongst the future professionals for the industry. Mrs Lay-Tan Siok Lie, TP's Deputy Principal and Mr Tai Lee Siang, President of Singapore Green Building Council shared their comments on the collaboration.

Description: Temasek Polytehcnic (TP) launched its Centre of Innovation (COI) for Complementary Health Products (CHP) to provide a one-stop service centre for CHP related enterprises. Guest-of-honour, Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for Ministry of Health and Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, officiated the launch on Thursday, 16 June 2016 at Auditorium 3, Temasek Polytechnic. The inauguration of the COI CHP also included the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between TP and three of its industry partners namely, Changi General Hospital Clinical Trial Research Unit, Singapore Chinese Physicians' Association (SCPA) and Techkon Properties Pte Ltd. Press release. 08 Nov. 2017. TP students adapt Philip's lighting technology to develop first-of-its-kind smart solutions

Description: From a poly-wide student competition entitled "Light beyond illumination: the smart campus edition", resulting from a partnership between Temasek Polytechnic and Philips Lighting, two teams of students from Temasek Polytechnic's Diploma in Integrated Facility Management and the Diploma in Infocomm & Network Engineering emerged as winners with their projects entitled "MINESpace" and "Occupants' Comfort". The top two teams were rewarded with a trip to the Philips' headquarters in Amsterdam, and upon their return, were mentored by experts from Philips Lighting to further develop their ideas into reality. "MINESpace", a system that combined a mobile app with the smart lights installed in two blocks of student apartments at the polytechnic enabled the entire process of nightly roll calls, inventory checking and fault reporting to be automated -- a first for any boarding school or hostel in Singapore. The 2nd project "Occupants' Comfort" made use of smart lights (called Power Over Ethernet, or PoE) to enhance the visual and thermal comfort of a classroom. The objective of the camp was to offer these students a first-hand experience of TP's way of life. Accompanied by lecturers from various academic schools, the students received explanations about the various diploma courses available, and they had the opportunity to actively participate in practical polytechnic education. Throughout the camp, a range of activities were conducted, including sing-along sessions, quizzes, games, and sports, with an emphasis on water sports like canoeing in Bedok Reservoir. Temasek Regatta 2016

Description: The grand finale of Temasek Polytechnic freshmen orientation 2016 was the regatta held in TP's own backyard, Bedok Reservoir. Comprising seven official races which included the freshmen, junior/seniors, alumni and staff categories. TP's regatta is a must attend for everyone who is part of the TP family. Senior management staff including Principal & CEO Mr Boo Kheng Hua were present at the regatta to cheer on all teams who participated in the dragon boat races. The School of Engineering emerged the winning team and champion for third consecutive year as well as the winner of cheer leading championship.

Description: Inspired by the initiative to establish Singapore as the world's first Smart Nation, Temasek Polytechnic (TP) set up a Smart Campus Platform that leveraged on a comprehensive and robust IT infrastructure and innovative technologies to make better decisions and improve the experience of studying and working at the Polytechnic. TP collaborated with Cisco Systems, EMC, Johnson Controls (S) Pte Ltd, NCS/SingTel and SAS Singapore on the Smart Campus Platform project. It also explored partnerships with companies such as NEC Asia Pacific and ST Electronics (Info-CommSystems) to trial smart campus solutions. Description: The award presentation for the winners of Tourism Innovation Competition 2013 (TIC) was held on Tuesday, 16 July 2013. Some 49 teams of students from 24 schools took part in the 2013 competition with the theme "Youth tourism". TIC was organised by Temasek Polytechnic's School of Business (Diploma in Hospitality & Tourism Management, and Diploma in Leisure & Resort Management) and supported by the Singapore Tourism Board. Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and the University of Western Australia (UWA) celebrated a decade-long partnership of student exchange on 27 February 2015. The exchange programme provided almost 400 students (170 students from TP's Diploma in Communications and Media Management (CMM) and about 200 from UWA students) an opportunity to learn more about Australian education and culture for TP students and for Australian students to understand TP life and Singapore culture. His Excellency, the Australian High Commissioner to Singapore, Mr Philip Green, Professor Krishna Sen, Dean of the Faculty of Arts at UWA, Mr Daniel Yeow, Director, TP's School of Business as well as senior staff and students from both institutions attended the celebration held at Temasek Polytechnic. Description: Temasek Polytechnic's "Meeting Young Minds @ BIT Project Show" was held on Wednesday, 24 February 2016 at Temasek Polytechnic Main Foyer and Auditorium 2. One of the 30 final year projects showcased was the creation of an eParking mobile application and other innovative technical solutions to boost productivity and ease the workload of parking enforcement officers with the use of QR-code scanning. The simple-to-use Android application allowed drivers and motorists to select the location, period of time and load funds to fulfill a parking session. Some of the other final year projects showcased included "Tri-factor authentication mechanism to track event attendance" and "On-the-go volunteering". Industry partners like honestbee.com and SAFESURE Engineering also took part in the discussion on driving innovations with technology. Mr Aloysius Lau, panelist and MD of SAFESURE was a BIT alumnus.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and A*STAR's Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE) developed a new nano-engineered screen protector that turned the ordinary screens of handheld devices into 3D displays. It would be marketed by start-up, Nanoveu Pte Ltd. The unique plastic film could also potentially be used as next generation security tokens employed by banks and corporations. Dr Jaslyn Law, the IMRE scientist and Mr Frank Chan, the TP scientist who led the overall National Research Foundation (NRF) funded project worked on the product since 2010. Description: The Graduate Employment Survey (GES), jointly conducted by the five polytechnics in 2017, showed that polytechnic graduates continue to be in demand in the job market. The overall employment rate six months after graduation was at 87.3% (86.4% for fresh graduates, and 89.8% for post-NS graduates). Although there was a decline from 2016, employment rate remains healthy. The decline is partly due to year-on-year changes in labour market and economic conditions, and preferences of students upon graduation.

Description: The Graduate Employment Survey (GES), jointly conducted by the five polytechnics, showed that polytechnic graduates continue to be sought after by employers and commanded higher salaries in 2018 than in 2017. Among respondents who entered the labour force, the overall employment rate six months after graduation was 89.5%, 2.2 percentage points higher than in 2017. The proportion who were unemployed and still looking for a job or in involuntary part-time/temporary employment decreased by 4.4 percentage points.
