The Tay Eng Soon Gold Medal 2023

Description: In 1994, the Tay Eng Soon Scholarship Fund was established in memory of the late Senior Minister of State for Education, Dr Tay Eng Soon, who played a pivotal role in the development of polytechnic and technical education. From the fund, the Tay Eng Soon Gold Medal is awarded annually to outstanding graduates from each of the polytechnics, who graduated from the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) prior to their studies at the polytechnic. The Medal was first presented at the 1995 Temasek Polytechnic graduation ceremony. The award recipient in 2023 was: Tang Yu Alexander (School of Applied Science).

Description: "Anil", one of the short stories written by thirty-six-year-old Ridjal Noor, was used as a preparatory text for General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) students in the UK. Ridjal, who graduated with a Diploma in Computer Engineering from Temasek Polytechnic (TP), nurtured his love for writing when he was in TP under the guidance of his communication skills lecturer, Miss Shirley Joseph, who spotted his enthusiasm and ability to write. He wrote articles for TP's School of Engineering newsletter, "Engineerrus". Ridjal, now a successful entrepreneur, said he owed his success in writing to his days at TP.

Description: To meet the rapid expansion of the early childhood education sector and increased demand for trained preschool teachers in Singapore, Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) and Temasek Polytechnic (TP) increased the intake places for their full-time early childhood education diploma courses, from a combined total of 380 to 675 places, in the new Academic Year starting April 2016. This represented a 77 per cent increase in total intake places. Starting from January 2016, the Diploma in Early Childhood Studies (ECS) students at Temasek Polytechnic (TP) could enhance their learning experience with TP's newly-enhanced laboratory preschool called PLAY (Preshool Learning Academy). PLAY was set up in January 2011 to provide TP's ECS diploma students with opportunities for demonstration, observation, modelling, and hands-on practice.

Description: More than 70 first-year students from Temasek Polytechnic (TP) School of Design Digital Film & Television course had the invaluable opportunity of working alongside Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM), Mr Goh Chok Tong, to produce a series of short films in celebration of 40 years of Marine Parade memories. The result, produced in a mere four months, was a collection of stories that brought to life the colourful memories of the people who grew up in Marine Parade - the MParaders. These stories of love, pain, friendship, camaraderie, second-chances and perseverance also showcased the many different aspects of Singapore's history, beautiful architecture, multi-ethnicity and kampong spirit, which would resonate with many Singaporeans. An under-the-stars picnic premiere of "Our stories, our home: 40 years of Marine Parade" was held on Saturday, 12 March 2016 at 7.45pm at Block 50A Marine Terrace with Emeritus Senior Minister (ESM) Goh Chok Tong as the guest-of-honour. Prizes were awarded for best film, direction, cinematography, script and editing. Generous funding for the partnership came from the Lee Foundation and Marine Parade CCC.

Press release. 01 Feb. 2017. Local polytechnics and Singapore Fintech Association sign MOU to intensify industry collaboration

Description: The five local polytechnics, namely Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Nanyang Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic, and Singapore FinTech Association (SFA) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to deepen collaboration between educators and the FinTech industry. This MOU supported the PolyFinTech 100 initiative, launched in October 2016 to develop a strong talent pool trained in financial technology to aid Singapore in becoming a smart financial centre. The MOU underscored SFA's commitment to enhance the FinTech eco-system through active and continuous engagement of polytechnic students. Plans for 2017 included the innovation lab crawls, internships and workshops. SFA's President Mr Chia Hock Lai and Mr Clarence Ti, Principal of Ngee Ann Polytechnic shared their comments on the collaboration.

It was held from 29 Sep to 1 Oct 2015 at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel. Professor Dylan Wiliam, Emeritus Professor of Educational Assessment, from the Institute of Education, University of London delivered the 1st and 3rd keynote addresses titled "How do we prepare our students for a world we cannot possibly imagine?" and "Principles of curriculum design". Professor Dai Hounsell, Professor of Higher Education & Vice-Principal for Academic Enhancement, Moray House School of Education, University of Edinburgh, Scotland delivered the 2nd keynote address titled "Trying something new : rethinking teaching, advancing learning". Ms Sim Ann, Minister of State, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Communications & Information was the guest-of-honour at the opening of the 3-day conference.

He succeeded Mr Boo Kheng Hua who retired as TP's Principal & CEO on the same date. Chairman of Temasek Polytechnic's Board of Governors, Mr Lee Kok Choy thanked Mr Boo for his leadership and dedication in driving the institution to even higher levels of excellence.
