The Tay Eng Soon Gold Medal 2021

Description: In 1994, the Tay Eng Soon Scholarship Fund was established in memory of the late Senior Minister of State for Education, Dr Tay Eng Soon, who played a pivotal role in the development of polytechnic and technical education. From the fund, the Tay Eng Soon Gold Medal is awarded annually to outstanding graduates from each of the polytechnics, who graduated from the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) prior to their studies at the polytechnic. The Medal was first presented at the 1995 Temasek Polytechnic graduation ceremony. The award recipients in 2021 was: Tham Josiah (School of Engineering).

Description: Sumitomo Life Insurance (Sumitomo Life) and Temasek Polytechnic (TP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 24 March 2021 to launch a digital talent accelerator programme dedicated to persons with disabilities (PWDs). The MOU was signed by Mr. Peter Lam, Principal & CEO of TP, and Mr. Toru Shiomitsu, Senior Executive Officer of Sumitomo Life, witnessed by Guest-of-Honour, Ms. Sun Xueling, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social & Family Development. This strategic partnership aimed to provide digital career training and opportunities for aspiring students who are PWDs, and interested in digital roles upon graduation.

Description: Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, Second Minister for the Ministry of Education, officiated at the opening session of Temasek Polytechnic's Graduation Ceremony on Monday, 3 May 2021 at the Temasek Convention Centre. A total of 6,203 students graduated from 47 full-time diploma courses and 42 part-time courses. The graduation ceremonies spanned over 35 sessions from 3 to 11 May 2021. The sessions were also livestreamed so that family and friends could be part of the celebration. Dr Maliki presented the polytechnic-level awards to the top graduates and also addressed the graduates from the full-time Diplomas in Big Data Management & Governance, Cyber & Digital Security and Cybersecurity & Digital Forensics at the opening session. Mr Lee Kok Choy, Chairman, TP’s Board of Governors, presented the Skills Mastery Award which recognised students who have demonstrated strong mastery of course-specific skills through their achievements in competitions. A total of 13 Skills Mastery Awards were given out this year.
