Global Community Day 2011

Summary: For the first time, Temasek Polytechnic held its Global Community Day (GCD) outside the campus. It partnered National Parks Board (Nparks) to stage the event, in conjunction with the Parks Festival at the Bedok Reservoir. The highlight of the celebrations was the staging of the first ever Lighting of WaterFire in Asia. The first fire was lit by guest-of-honour, Mr Chan Chun Sing, Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports and Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence. Various activities were held during the two-day event which celebrated diversity and promoted inter-cultural understanding. There were participation from embassies of various countries, cultural dances and performances, photo sessions and games for the public, TP students and staff.

Summary: Her Excellency, Dr Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister of Women's Affairs, Cambodia presented the Certificate in Food Science and Nutrition to 30 women from the Cambodian Ministry of Women's Affairs (MWA) who were the first to complete a 4-year Food Science & Nutrition Certification Programme at Temasek Polytechnic (TP). The presentation ceremony took place on Global Community Day 2014, Friday, 7 November 2014 at TP's Glocal Connect Village. This programme was part of the agreement undertaken between TP and Temasek Foundation (TF) in 2011 for the execution of "Public Health and Nutrition Intervention Training Programme" in Cambodia.

Summary: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) celebrated its seventh annual Global Community Day (GCD) on Friday, 7 July 2017 at TP's Glocal Connect Village. GCD is a celebration of diversity with cross-cultural performances and showcases from countries around the world. The 7th GCD was a multi-sensory extravaganza of food and cultural workshops, as well as vibrant showcases and performances, in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Artists from the Mouth & Foot Painting Artists (MFPA) such as Christina Lau and Tan Kok Leong participated in the celebrations where they shared their inspiring life stories. Also on display at The Art Gallery @ TP's Glocal Connect Village was "We draw ASEAN together", an exhibition of sketches featuring life in Southeast Asian cities, by artists and hobbyists from Urban Sketchers Singapore (USk), which was founded in 2009 by TP's Artist-in-Residence, Madam Tia Boon Sim. Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Education & Ministry of Communications and Information was the guest-of-honour. The event was organised by TP's Centre for TransCultural Studies.
