North East CDC SuperMind CNY Fiesta with Temasek Polytechnic

Description: On 27 January 2016, a group of 150 TP students from the School of Engineering together with the North East CDC SuperMind Clubs celebrated the Chinese New Year (CNY) Fiesta with 250 senior citizens. The SuperMind CNY Fiesta was the finale to an 8-week engagement programme for seniors and 150 TP students. This programme created greater awareness of the needs of our senior citizens as well as provided a platform for TP students to contribute to the community through volunteering. The senior citizens were taught how to make simple CNY origami models using recycled red paper envelopes. They were treated to a spectacular concert performance at Audi 1 followed by a sumptious dinner. As part of the community service initiative by Student Development (ENG), a photo exhibition on their engagement programme with the elderly was also on display at the Auditorium Foyer. Guest-of-honour for the event was Mr Masagos Zulkifli, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources. Also present at the event were senior management staff including Mr Wong Kia Ngee, Director, School of Engineering, Mr Teo Sze Cheng, Director, International Relations & Industry Services and Centre for Character & Leadership Education, and Mr Teo Choo Hwee, Raymond, Director, Student & Alumni Affairs Dept.

Sketch over colour splashes workshop

Description: Madam Tia Boon Sim, lecturer from TP's School of Design conducted a sketching workshop on 16 February 2012. Participants learned to develop their sketches from a focal point using oil pastel crayon sticks and water-soluble mediums. Splashing, mixing colours on paper, scratching/scraping, wax-resist were some ways that participants could use to create interesting marks. They were also encouraged to experiment with bamboo pens, different inks and any other water-soluble mediums, strings, crayons during the sketching process. The workshop aimed to help participants appreciate the unexpected outcomes in art and learn to have fun with the process of exploring various expressions through sketching and colouring techniques.

Visit by students of Yishun Town Secondary School

Description: On 3 July 2013, students from Yishun Town Secondary School visited the Temasek Polytechnic. Staff from the Centre for Foundation Studies shared on the different admission routes to polytechnic studies including the one-year Polytechnic Foundation Programme (PFP) at TP. The foundation programmme's practice-oriented curriculum will prepare Normal (Academic) students for entry into relevant polytechnic diploma courses. The 1st batch of student intake for the PFP @ TP commenced in April 2013 for students who performed very well in the Singapore-Cambridge GCE N-level Examinations.

Poly level award presentation ceremony 2014

Description: On 20 May 2014, 11 top students from the graduating cohort were honoured in a room filled with proud parents, secondary school principals and teachers, in a pre-graduation ceremony as details of the challenges they faced in the pursuit of their dreams were read out. The ceremony also saw a disabled graduand receive the inaugural Ngee Ann Kongsi Most Outstanding Overcomer Award. The awards were presented by Mr Boo Kheng Hua, Principal & CEO. TPRAWKS 2014, day 1

Description: A 3-day non residential camp for secondary school students, especially for those taking their O-level exams in 2014. It was held on 17 to 19 November 2014. The objective was to allow these students to experience TP's way of life. Lecturers from the different academic schools were present to explain the types of diploma courses available, and under their expert guidance, students had a taste of hands-on poly education. Some of the activities held during the 3-day camp included sing along sessions, quizzes and games, sports especially water sports like canoeing in Bedok Reservoir, an opportunity to be a performer in the Black Box Theatre, and the grand finale, "Jam and hop".

Inaugural Temasek Regatta

Description: The inaugural Temasek Regatta or Dragon Boat Competition was held on 20 May 2005 at the Bedok Reservoir. It was also the grand finale of the Week Zero Orientation. About 15 secondary schools signed up to compete in the invitational schools' competition in the morning, while TP staff and students competed in the late afternoon. Senior management staff, including Principal & CEO Mr Boo Kheng Hua, also participated in the race.

Temasek Polytechnic Open House 2006, day 1

Description: Temasek Polytechnic Open House was held from 19 to 21 January 2006. The annual event was held to enable secondary school students to make an informed choice regarding their educational path after they have completed their studies. Visitors were given the opportunity to meet up with the lecturers from the respective schools to find out more on the diploma courses offered. Mr Boo Kheng Hua, Principal & CEO and senior management staff took the opportunity to walk around the different schools to observe the many different activities that were organised to entice the secondary school students to join the polytechnic after their O Level results. I-Guides, a group of volunteer students, were on hand to guide visitors around the campus and brief them about the various schools and activities going on. Some of the highlights of the the 3-day Open House included a couture catwalk featuring works by Apparel Design & Merchandising students, meet & greet Singapore Idol finalists, Olinda Cho and Sylvester Sim, doodle box, Engineering project show -- "experience" 3D computer graphics and visualisation technologies, animal and fish magic, maze of colourings & flavouring, courses & CCA exhibitions, performances by TP students, and water adventures such as dragon boating, canoeing and canoe-polo held at Bedok Reservoir. The finale of the Open House was the Jam and Hop session on 21 January 2006 evening with performances by Leandra and renowned local groups.

Parental guidance seminar 2010

Description: Temasek Polytechnic's Parental guidance seminar (PGS) is an annual event specially put together to help parents understand the options that students have after their O levels. On 3 July 2010, TP hosted the seminar for more than 700 parents and students, who got to find out more about a polytechnic education, TP courses, scholarships, and further education and career opportunities. They heard from alumni members about life in TP, and took the chance to ask questions during the Q&A session with the Registrar, Ms Sharon Soh and senior staff members from the academic schools. The visitors were taken on a tour of the academic schools where they had the opportunity to see for themselves TP's excellent learning facilities first hand. They aslo benefited from interacting with the lecturers, which helped them understand better the courses available at TP.

Temasek Polytechnic Open House 2013, day 1

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) Open House 2013 was held on 5, 7 and 8 January 2013. The annual open house was held to enable secondary school students to make an informed choice regarding their educational path after they have completed their studies. The secondary school students were given the opportunity to meet up with the lecturers from the respective schools, have a chat with them on the diploma courses offered, tour the campus and meet up with TP students to find out more about the outstanding facilities, the different options open to them and life in the campus. Some of the activities provided during the 3-day open house included a fashion show, the making of rangoli - an Indian art form using coloured rice, coloured sand and dry flour, performances by TP students (a roller skating routine, concert with live band, percussion music) and live non-stop hit music with JJ of Hot FM91.3.

Clay sculpturing workshop

Description: More than 20 teachers from 14 secondary schools attended a free half-day clay sculpturing workshop at Temasek Polytechnic on 16 April 2013. The workshop was organised by Corporate Communications Department in partnership with School of Design. Though the participants had little or no art experience, the creative session specially tailored for beginners gave them a chance to explore art tools and clay techniques to produce simple handmade pieces. Mr Jeffrey Ang Choon Seng & Mr Justin Lee Chen-Chung from School of Design Foundation Studies conducted the workshop. The event was part of a series of Teachers' workshops, TP's way of offering education and enrichment opportunities to secondary schools, and promoting knowledge sharing and networking.

Description: Stylish protective gear for PMD users, Car-lite malls of the future and Athleisure-Inspired wedding gowns were only some of the 400 innovative projects showcased by the graduating class of TP School of Design. These projects across fashion, architecture, film, product design and communication design disciplines was held from 8 to 11 March 2019 at the Temasek Polytechnic School of Design, Block 28A. In an effort to train young minds to be responsible designers, the Design Show also included Sustainability Awards. The top three projects that address bigger issues of the world through their designs such as reducing poverty, resolving hunger and responsible consumption, received a $1,000 prize each. This year was also the inaugural run of The Pitch a new initiative that saw 11 commercially viable final-year projects spanning the range of fashion, product and communication design ideas, pitched to a panel of angel investors, commercial incubators and venture capitalists.

Among the projects showcased were: a mobile application for "Packnada", a local start-up co-founded by TP alumni Johnbosco Ng that helped frequent travellers to Singapore skip packing, and travel without their luggage; customised resumes from your mobile device - a simple, mobile-friendly, one-stop job matching portal that focused on part-time work which catered to job seekers in the service industry; bump and scan for supplements on the go - a fuss-free online shopping at your fingertips with the NutriFirst mobile application featuring a refer-and-reward system via "bumping" or sharing offers with friends. Press release. 15 Aug. 2016. Temasek Polytechnic and Philips Lighting to launch first connected lighting test bed in a tertiary institution in Singapore

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) collaborated with Philips Lighting to launch the first connected lighting test bed on campus. The collaboration empowered TP students, under the guidance of lecturers and Philips' engineers, to create connected lighting solutions for the campus, and develop innovative ideas in the application of smart lighting. The collaboration kicked off with a competition for TP students titled, "Light beyond illumination: the smart campus edition". The competition ran from 15 August to 31 October 2016, and the brief was for students to innovate smart lighting applications to drive greater energy efficiencies and to improve the campus learning experience. Philips Lighting invested S$100,000 to enable the top two winning ideas to be implemented on a test bed on campus. Mr Peter Lam, Principal & CEO, Temasek Polytechnic and Mr. Wee Shiang Ning, General Manager of Philips Lighting Singapore shared their comments on the collaboration.

Temasek Regatta 2018

Description: The grand finale of Temasek Polytechnic freshmen orientation 2018 was the regatta held in TP's own backyard, Bedok Reservoir. Comprising seven official races which included the freshmen, junior/seniors, alumni and staff categories. TP's regatta is a must attend for everyone who is part of the TP family. Description: "Anil", one of the short stories written by thirty-six-year-old Ridjal Noor, was used as a preparatory text for General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) students in the UK. Ridjal, who graduated with a Diploma in Computer Engineering from Temasek Polytechnic (TP), nurtured his love for writing when he was in TP under the guidance of his communication skills lecturer, Miss Shirley Joseph, who spotted his enthusiasm and ability to write. He wrote articles for TP's School of Engineering newsletter, "Engineerrus". Ridjal, now a successful entrepreneur, said he owed his success in writing to his days at TP.
