School of Engineering Orientation Programme

Description: About 1,042 students and staff from the School of Engineering joined hands at Kim Seng Campus to set a world record for the longest human chain. The human chain snaked through the corridors of the campus buildings and the carparks. The activity was part of the School's three-day orientation programme from 4 to 6 July 1994.

Sketch over colour splashes workshop

Description: Madam Tia Boon Sim, lecturer from TP's School of Design conducted a sketching workshop on 16 February 2012. Participants learned to develop their sketches from a focal point using oil pastel crayon sticks and water-soluble mediums. Splashing, mixing colours on paper, scratching/scraping, wax-resist were some ways that participants could use to create interesting marks. They were also encouraged to experiment with bamboo pens, different inks and any other water-soluble mediums, strings, crayons during the sketching process. The workshop aimed to help participants appreciate the unexpected outcomes in art and learn to have fun with the process of exploring various expressions through sketching and colouring techniques.

Specialist Diploma in Environment and Water Technology

Study rooms for "O" and "A" level students

Symposium on Traditional Medicine cum launch of Centre for Traditional Medicine

Description: Temasek Polytechnic's School of Applied Science (ASc) organised the Symposium on Traditional Medicine on 6 April 2010. The welcome address was given by Mrs Lay-Tan Siok Lie, Deputy Principal and the guest of honour was Mr Ted Tan, Deputy CEO, SPRING Singapore. Guests speakers for the symposium included Dr Lee Chee Wee, Chief Executive Officer, Lynk Biotechnologies P/L, Dr Allan Lim, Coordinator, Nestle R&D Center (Pte) Ltd Singapore, Ms Karol Tong, President, The Medicine Manufacturing Association of Singapore and Ms Samantha Su, Deputy Director, Services & Biomedical and International Partnership Office (Europe & Middle East) SPRING Singapore. Mrs Soon-Ong Meng Wan, Director, School of Applied Science gave tokens of appreciation to the guest speakers. The symposium was followed by the launch of the Centre for Traditional Medicine by guest of honour Mr Ted Tan. Mr Tan and symposium participants were given a tour of the Centre for Traditional Medicine after the launch. The Centre provides an integrated approach to present ASc's comprehensive capabilities in traditional medicine (TM) to the industry. With the growing interest in this alternative medical system, the Centre would serve as a one-stop centre offering services ranging from consultancy to training especially in the modernisation of the TM industry as it hopes to preserve the relevance of TM for the younger generation, focusing on the quality, safety and efficacy of TM.

TP Buddy Day

Description: About 200 students from 35 secondary schools got a taste of poly life during the Buddy Day at Temasek Polytechnic held on 28 January 1999. The annual event was organised by the institution's Polytechnic Outreach Centre. The students were paired up with TP buddy who accompanied them to lectures, tutorials, lab sessions and facilities around campus. Lecturers were also on hand at the workshops to introduce them to the equipment and to answer any questions that they may have.

TP staff volunteers helped to baseline notebooks for loan to freshmen during circuit breaker

Description: TP staff responded positively to Information Technology Services Department (ITS) appeal for staff who were willingly to learn to help with baselining a few hundred notebooks for the period 6 to 9 April 2020. The notebooks were loaned out to freshmen who were waiting to purchase or collect their notebooks and also for those who were waiting for financial assistance to get their notebooks. The notebook were loan to them as an interim measure as the campus was closed during the circuit breaker and they could not used the computers in the library or school labs.

TPRAWKS 2006

Description: For the first time, some 1,500 students from 82 secondary schools were given the opportunity to experience life as a student in Temasek Polytechnic (TP), first hand. TPRAWKS is a new initiative by Temasek Polytechnic and was held from Nov 29 to Dec 1 2006. The five schools in TP - Applied Science, Information Technology, Business, Design and Engineering planned three days of fun and informative activities for the participants. These students were taken on tours of each school and learnt more about the courses from the lecturers who were on hand to explain the types of diploma courses available, and under their expert guidance, students had a sneak peek into the courses that were of interest to them. Besides the cultural performance by TP Salvo drum group, TPRAWKS 2006 also served up a delightful treat in the form of an exclusive performance by Singapore Idol and TP alumnus Hady Mirza at the Temasek Convention Centre.

The objective was to allow these students to experience TP's way of life. Participants also have the opportunity to interact with the five Singapore Idol finalists such as Charles "Stitch" Wong, Faizal Isa, Sylvia Ratonel, Sezairi Sezali and Tabitha Nauser. Some of the activities held during the 3-day camp included a series of workshops, games, sports like dragon boating, and the grand finale, "Jam and hop".

Other activities held over the 3 days included sing along sessions, mass dancing, quizzes and games, and water sports at the Bedok Reservoir. The grand finale was the "Jam and Hop" hosted by DJ Kzee and with live performance by the Goodfellas. Present at the grand finale was Mr Brendan Wong, TP's Director of Corporate Communications Dept.
