Press release. 27 June 2016. Singapore's 1st Resource Centre for Aquaculture & Veterinary Science is launched in Temasek Polytechnic

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) launched the Centre for Aquaculture and Veterinary Science (CAVS), the first of its kind in Singapore on Monday, 27 June 2016 at Auditorium 3. Guest-of-honour was Dr Koh Poh Koon, Minister of State for Ministry of National Development and Ministry of Trade and Industry. The inauguration of CAVS also included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between TP and its industry partner APOLLO Aquaculture Group Pte Ltd. The partnership would see joint activities and commitments in areas such as research and development efforts for intensive cultivation of fish and crustaceans, as well as training programmes for TP students in aquaculture engineering, production and support. Dr Lee Chee Wee, Director, TP's School of Applied Science gave the opening address.

Description: For the second time, Temasek Polytechnic has been awarded the prestigious Electrolux Culinary Institution of the Year award at the recent World Gourmet Summit Awards of Excellence 2012 held on 24 March. The award recognised culinary institutions that offered courses for nurturing culinary talents, and had been consistent in delivering and promoting high standards in the culinary field. The World Gourmet Summit Awards of Excellence was regarded as the foremost national accolade in the industry. Mr Tan Hsien Wei, Course Manager, Diploma in Culinary & Catering Management, Temasek Polytechnic said that TP was delighted to receive the award.

Press release. 27 Mar. 2017. Lao PDR public health officials train in health and nutrition practices through partnership with Temasek Foundation International and Temasek Polytechnic

Description: Some 100 public officials from schools, hospitals and health centres across Lao PDR went through a public healthcare nutrition intervention programme in Lao PDR supported by Temasek Foundation International and Temasek Polytechnic. The two-year programme, which started in 2015, was funded by Temasek Foundation International through a grant of S$223,430. These participants, in turn, used their learning to train more than 200 other health educators and school teachers on ways to design healthier and more nutritious meals in hospitals and schools. To commemorate the success of the programme, a closing ceremony was held on 23 March 2017 in Singapore, officiated by His Excellency, Associate Professor Dr Phouthone Muongpak, Vice Minister of Health, Lao PDR. Also present were Mr Benedict Cheong, Chief Executive, Temasek Foundation International and Mr Peter Lam, Principal & CEO, Temasek Polytechnic.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and A*STAR's Institute of Materials Research and Engineering (IMRE) developed a new nano-engineered screen protector that turned the ordinary screens of handheld devices into 3D displays. It would be marketed by start-up, Nanoveu Pte Ltd. The unique plastic film could also potentially be used as next generation security tokens employed by banks and corporations. Dr Jaslyn Law, the IMRE scientist and Mr Frank Chan, the TP scientist who led the overall National Research Foundation (NRF) funded project worked on the product since 2010. Mrs Lay-Tan Siok Lie, Deputy Principal of TP, Mr Alfred Chong, Nanoveu Pte Ltd Founder and CEO and Prof Andy Hor, Executive Director of IMRE shared their comments on the product.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) and DDB Worldwide signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 28 October 2016 to set up a satellite office of Equator to groom the next generation of creative technologists in Singapore. Equator is DDB Worldwide's first-ever global centre of excellence for technology and innovation to pioneer digital transformation marketing solutions. A diverse pool of students from the School of Informatics & IT, School of Design, School of Engineering and School of Business would serve their internships at the on-campus agency. Ms Low Yen Ling, Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Education & Ministry of Trade and Industry, witnessed the signing of the MOU by Mr Peter Lam, Principal & CEO, Temasek Polytechnic and David Tang, CEO of DDB Asia. The first project co-created with TP student was a community project called the Personal Response for Emergency Situations (P.R.E.S.) -- a mobile application that allows users to send one-touch distress signals to their loved ones and relevant authorities, alerting them to possible emergencies such as a terrorist attack or a disaster.

Description: Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman, Second Minister for the Ministry of Education, officiated at the opening session of Temasek Polytechnic's Graduation Ceremony on Monday, 3 May 2021 at the Temasek Convention Centre. A total of 6,203 students graduated from 47 full-time diploma courses and 42 part-time courses. The graduation ceremonies spanned over 35 sessions from 3 to 11 May 2021. The sessions were also livestreamed so that family and friends could be part of the celebration. Dr Maliki presented the polytechnic-level awards to the top graduates and also addressed the graduates from the full-time Diplomas in Big Data Management & Governance, Cyber & Digital Security and Cybersecurity & Digital Forensics at the opening session. Mr Lee Kok Choy, Chairman, TP’s Board of Governors, presented the Skills Mastery Award which recognised students who have demonstrated strong mastery of course-specific skills through their achievements in competitions. A total of 13 Skills Mastery Awards were given out this year.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) students from the School of Design together with People's Association, DBS Bank and Bloomberg competed in a "live" installation showcase of innovative, purposeful and sustainable solutions to benefit the community. Called the Collaborative Design Challenge @ ARCHIFEST 2016, the show was held on Friday, 30 September 2016, between 12 noon-1.30pm at Pavilion@Raffles Place Park, Raffles Place. Students from TP's Diploma in Interior Architecture & Design have over the past four weeks, formed teams with end users, designers and manufacturers to identify a need or problem, then design and build a functional installation that added value to people's lives using only recycled materials. Among the challenge projects showcased were: "Giving" tree -- made from recycled material, the tree could be easily replicated and set up in community centres where members of the public could pen down their gift of kindness ; Trolley to help the elderly cardboard collectors; DIY solution to tackle discomfort in the workplace. The challenge concluded with a 30-minute assemblage of the pre-fabricated design elements on site at ARCHIFEST 2016.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) School of Design partnered with BERNINA Singapore, a Swiss international manufacturer of sewing and embroidery systems to launch the TP-BERNINA Creative Studio, a collaborative workspace at TPs School of Design (DES), fitted with Bernina's sewing machines, embroidery machines, overlockers and embroidery software. The partnership was cemented with the signing of an MOU between TP and BERNINA by Mr Lim Chong Jin, Director, TP's School of Design and Ms Katharina Ueltschi, Director, BERNINA Singapore, on Friday, 30 October 2020. Description: Temasek Polytechnic Design Show 2016 was held from 31 March to 2 April at the Temasek Polytechnic Auditorium Foyer. A total of 450 innovative, purposeful ideas were showcased from the graduating class of the School of Design. Among them were "Fashion for wheel-chaired women" by Apparel Design & Merchandising students, Dorcas Lum and Denise Gow who created Orzora - a fashion and store concept that caters to wheelchair-bound women; "Preserving the HDB kampong spirit" which germinated from the idea of encouraging upcycling - to reuse (discarded objects or material) in such a way as to create a product of higher quality or value than the original, within the community, by Interior Architecture & Design student Xing Li; and 'The Puff Pal for asthmatic children" - an asthma inhaler that is ergonomically designed for children by Product & Industrial Design students Nur Syahidah Bte Roslan and Tay Jing Ying.

Description: A showcase of more than 40 projects by Temasek Polytechnic's School of Applied Science was held at TP's Applied Science Show to industry partners and the public on Wednesday, 1 October 2014 at TP's Auditorium 3. The opening address was delivered by Dr Lee Chee Wee, Director, School of Applied Science, Temasek Polytechnic. Among the projects showcased were "Turning waste to plastic", "Improving nutrition and quality of ornamental fish" and "1st database on the GI of Asian food". Professor (Dr.) Thomas Wolever, the world's founder of GI Testing, was in attendance at the show. Representatives from industry partners like Sembcorp, Agilent Technologies Singapore and Hockhua Traditional Medicine participated in the industry symposium.

Description: "Anil", one of the short stories written by thirty-six-year-old Ridjal Noor, was used as a preparatory text for General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) students in the UK. Ridjal, who graduated with a Diploma in Computer Engineering from Temasek Polytechnic (TP), nurtured his love for writing when he was in TP under the guidance of his communication skills lecturer, Miss Shirley Joseph, who spotted his enthusiasm and ability to write. He wrote articles for TP's School of Engineering newsletter, "Engineerrus". Ridjal, now a successful entrepreneur, said he owed his success in writing to his days at TP.

Description: The Design Show 2014 showcased a total of 420 projects from the graduating students of Temasek Polytechnic's School of Design. It was held at the Temasek Polytechnic Auditorium Foyer from 3 to 5 April 2014. Emphasis was placed on doing good and meaningful designs with a strong social message, resulting in an explosion of delightful, creative and innovative ideas across multiple disciplines that benefitted the community and drove change. Highlighted among the projects were "Cat clock and other strange things" by Nur Dianna Bte Sa'ad, "My house downstairs" by Loh Wan Ling, "Neighbourhood walk" by Chiang Pin Yi, "Urban nest" by Lee Teck Man, "Old boys" by Tan Jun Yuan. In addition to the exhibition of projects, was a series of fringe events that included talks and a dialogue between Environment Design students, industry leaders and urban planners such as the URA, the Singapore Institute of Architects and the Singapore Institute of Planners on the students' proposed visions for the Marina Bay urbanscape.

Description: Temasek Polytechnic (TP) in collaboration with industry partner Gnowbe, launched more than 60 mobile Micro-Learning Courses (MLCs) aimed at meeting the skills-upgrading demands of busy, working professionals. The launch was officiated by guest-of-honour, Ms Low Yen Ling, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Trade and Industry. To prepare for this launch, TP has developed bite-sized MLCs in subject areas such as Business, Engineering, IT, Applied Sciences and Life Skills, and each MLC comprises 10 to 20 lessons and every lesson could be completed within 15 minutes. Moreover, TP would offer every Singaporean and Permanent Resident one free MLC from a basket of 34 courses, to encourage their pursuit of lifelong learning anytime, anywhere starting from 5 April to 4 June 2018. Description: In line with the Government's heightened safe distancing measures, the polytechnics and ITE have made the difficult decision to cancel the graduation ceremonies which were scheduled to take place in May and July 2020. The cancellation affected some 26,000 graduands from the five polytechnics and 6,500 graduands from ITE. Institutions will make arrangements for diplomas/certificates and transcripts to be delivered to the graduands.
