Parents as partners in career planning seminar

Description: The Parents as Partners in Career Planning Seminar was held on 4 October 1997. The seminar aimed to help potential applicants make informed choices for their future. Close to 1,000 parents and their teenager children attended the seminar to seek information concerning choice of courses and career prospects. Guest of Honour, Mr Charles Chong, MP for Pasir Ris GRC, gave a keynote address on "Parents' Role In Career Planning. Other speakers at the seminar included Mr Goh Ah Bee, Managing Director, Leica Instruments (S) Pte Ltd, who gave insights into the"Rising Profile of Polytechnic Education and Career Opportunities", and Mr Ang Keng Loo, Deputy Principal of Temasek Polytechnic, who spoke on "TP - Your Partner in Career Planning".

School of Design Open House and "Viewpoint" Exhibition

Description: The School of Design held a separate Open House cum exhibition, entitled "Viewpoint" at the Design Centre on 18 to 26 February 1994. About 7,500 visitors learnt about the various courses available, the unique upgrading system and the career opportunities for design graduates. School of Engineering Orientation Programme

Description: About 1,042 students and staff from the School of Engineering joined hands at Kim Seng Campus to set a world record for the longest human chain. The human chain snaked through the corridors of the campus buildings and the carparks. The activity was part of the School's three-day orientation programme from 4 to 6 July 1994.

Study rooms for "O" and "A" level students

The classrooms were located at Block 25 of Temasek Engineering School and opened daily from 9am to 10pm except on Sundays. Some lecturers even dropped by to help students with their revision. TP Buddy Day

Description: About 200 students from 35 secondary schools got a taste of poly life during the Buddy Day at Temasek Polytechnic held on 28 January 1999. The annual event was organised by the institution's Polytechnic Outreach Centre. The students were paired up with TP buddy who accompanied them to lectures, tutorials, lab sessions and facilities around campus. Lecturers were also on hand at the workshops to introduce them to the equipment and to answer any questions that they may have.

Temasek Engineering School's TechGames workshops 2001

Description: Temasek Engineering School's TechGames workshops for secondary school students was held on 15 September 2001. The workshops were held in conjunction with Science.01, a month-long national event celebrating Science, Technology and Biomedicine in Singapore. Highlight of the workshop was the introduction of Sony Aibo, the popular robotic dog. Other workshops organised included an introduction to the Global Positioning System (GPS), a Solar Insect Design competition, an Intelligent Building Design module and Creative Physics.

Description: The Temasek Polytechnic Open House was held from 12 to 14 February 1998. About 400 students were recruited as I-Guides or Information Guides for the first time. The guides acted as walking "information booths", guiding visitors, providing information on the polytechnic and leading groups of students and teachers from their secondary schools to TP. A cybercafe for teachers was also provided for secondary school teachers that accompanied their students to the Open House. Beside course and career counsellings, visitors were also invited to link up with an overseas friend via satellite, design web pages and try pottery and caricature demos. Temasek Polytechnic first tree planting day

The Tourism Academy @ Sentosa Resource Centre

Description: The Tourism Academy @ Sentosa Resource Centre (TASRC) officially opened its doors to Temasek Polytechnic (TP) staff and students pursuing the Hospitality and Tourism Management diploma course on 11 May 2005. The Resource Centre was run by TP Library with staff being seconded to work there on a rotational basis. The Resource Centre occupied one of the 4 colonial barracks that was restored and converted into the Tourism Academy @ Sentosa (TAS) campus in December 2004, a collaborative venture between Temasek Polytechnic and Sentosa Leisure Group. Renovation works on the Resource Centre started in early 2005, and by April, furniture, built-in fittings, equipment and IT setup were completed and the Centre was ready for occupation. The TASRC offered a niche collection of titles in subjects ranging from hospitality, culinary arts, travel to leisure. It also offered a selection of fiction titles, newspapers, periodicals and AV items such as movies and music CDs, to meet the learning and leisure needs of its members. However, with the closure of the Tourism Academy @ Sentosa on 26 August 2011, the Resource Centre ceased operations, and library staff started the big move back to TP Library at Tampines. This involved stock-taking of over 7,000 items consisting of books, journals and audio-visuals materials; RFID retagging of the resources as well as dismantling and packing of the 3M security gates, audio-visual and computer equipment and peripherals in preparation for the items to be transported back to the Tampines campus by 30 September 2011.

The many faces of Singapore 2004

Description: The finals for the 5th Singapore Tourism Competition for schools, "The Many Faces of Singapore", was held at Temasek Polytechnic Auditorium on July 2004. It was jointly organised by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Singapore Chapter and Temasek Polytechnic with support from Singapore Tourism Board. The competition was opened to all secondary schools and students were encouraged to explore unique ideas based on local heritage, history, beliefs, or the arts to draw tourist to Singapore. About 4,600 students from 61 secondary schools took part in the competition with 16 teams making it to the finals.

The many faces of Singapore: Singapore tourism competition for schools 2001

Description: The "Many Faces of Singapore" competition, opened to all secondary schools, was held to expore ways to promote Singapore as an ideal tourist destination. It was organised by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Singapore Chapter together with the Temasek Business School. Student teams were required to submit a 2,000 word report on their ideas to promote Singapore as a tourist destination. On 25 May 2001, the shortlisted teams set up exhibition booths in Temasek Polytechnic to present their ideas in a multi-sensory environment.

Description: The finals for the 4th Singapore Tourism Competition, "The Many Faces of Tourism in Singapore" was held at Temasek Polytechnic Auditorium on 18 July 2003. It was organised by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Singapore Chapter and Temasek Business School with support from Singapore Tourism Board. The competition was opened to all secondary schools and students were encouraged to explore unique ideas to draw tourist family groups to Singapore.
