Polytechnic Foundation Programme seminar : new through-train pathway for Normal (Academic) students

Date: 2012

Content Type: Still Image

Description: On 18 July 2012, a nationwide Join-Polytechnic Foundation Programme (PFP) was organised by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and all five polytechnics. Secondary schools were invited to send their top Secondary 4 Normal (Academic) students to attend the seminar. An estimated 1,800 students and their parents as well as teachers attended the Polytechnic Foundation Programme (PFP) seminar to find out more about PFP. Mr William Lim, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Education (MOE) Higher Education Division, enlightened guests on the PFP. PFP offers a practice-oriented curriculum to prepare Normal (Academic) students for entry into relevant polytechnic diploma courses. This programme is an alternative pathway to Secondary Five and offers students the opportunity to pursue diplomas with more than 80% of Polytechnic Diploma courses in all five polytechnics in Singapore. Ms Katherine Rajah, Temasek Polytechnic's Assistant Director, School of Engineering Academic Development spoke on TP's PFP one-year programme which offered a practice-oriented curriculum that was specially designed to lay a strong foundation in Language and Mathematics and gave polytechnic-bound Normal (Academic) students a foretaste of their chosen diploma courses. The seminar's Q&A session provided a platform for the audience to surface questions regarding PFP to a panel comprising of representatives from MOE and the five polytechnics. PFP student ambassadors were also on hand to provide information on the programme and the different courses that TP offered. This first Joint-PFP seminar was held at the Republic Polytechnic Agora Halls.
